"Batdance" Video---It should have been shown during the closing credits of the "Batman" film!

I was watching a collection of old Prince music videos, and I was blown away by the "Batdance" video. It has always been one of my favorite Prince music videos. It's well-choreographed,very dramatic and effective. In fact,I think this video is even more thrilling than the actual film!

I think it would have been cool if they had shown this video during the closing credits of the movie.I bet alot of people would have stayed in their seats to watch it.What do you guys think?

I agree, the video is some of his best work - even if the song isn't! The same for Partyman - imagine if that song opened the film!

Most definatly, that was the song that got me hooked on Prince. It is such an awsome clip, especially the Vicky Vales sexy I just wish I hadnt taped over it. But the clip at the end of the movie would have been awsome.

I've always felt that the filmmakers didn't use Prince's music effectively in the film. They wasted a golden opportunity."The Future" was played for only a few seconds at the beginning and you could barely hear it! I think they should have used instrumental versions of "Lemon Crush" and "Batdance" during some of the high-powered action sequences.

absolutely disagree. the music by danny elfman was and still is phenomenal imo. the scenes where they DID prominently use prince's music are excellent; 'partyman' during the joker's entrance at that museum/restaurant where he meets with vicki vale (this scene specifically got me into prince!), and 'trust' during the joker's parade through gotham city. why do you need more? you here some snippets on the background now and then. that's enough for me.

I feel that Prince delivered a great album to the filmmakers and they were reluctant to really use his music.I'm not saying they had to play every song in it's entirety, but it would have been nice to have heard more of his soundtrack in the film."Batdance",in particular, should have been used somewhere (as an instrumental)."The Future" perfectly captures the spirit and mood of Gotham City,it should have been heard more clearly too.

I have to agree with Purpleone, Prince's music was great, but it didn't really need any more of a presence in the film. The Elfman score perfectly fit the film, more Prince music would not have.
Now, if they ever get around to the "Special Edition" DVD of Batman, I hope they include ALL of the Batman related videos on it! C'mon Warners "do it, do it."

isn't it true that Prince wrote both a soundtrack and a score for the movie. I think it would be interesting to see the movie with Prince's score replacing the Elfman score on a special edition DVD. Of course, with the state of Prince's Career and the rift with WB, there's no chance of this happening.

I also read somewhere that Prince is in the movie. Apparently he walks by at the very start when the guy is trying to catch a taxi, ive looked really hard and i think i have seen him, but cant be sure. here is to watching the first 3 minutes of Batman over and over biggrin

I think Prince is talented enough to compose an instrumental score for the movie and it's possible that he did. There were also a few songs that the filmmakers rejected..."Dance With the Devil","200 Balloons","The Batman Theme" and "Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic".

There was only ever intended to be 2 Prince songs in Batman. It was a nice touch that they managed to squeeze a few more into the background here and there.

The only reason there's any Prince tracks in there at all is because Jack Nicholson is a big fan, and they used '1999' for the scene in the museum, and 'Baby Im A Star' for the parade scene. When they approached Prince to get permission to use the 2 tracks he offered to give them 2 brand new tracks instead. This is why 'Partyman' has the same tempo and basic structure as '1999', and 'Trust' has the same tempo and structure as 'Baby Im A Star'.

Prince was so enthusiastic about the project that he ended up recording an entire album's worth of material. Hence the 'Music from and inspired by the movie Batman' album.

Batdance

Yes! Yes!

Great topic smile smile smile

You're right. The video to Batdance should have been shown during the closing credits of the film. Then, when it was released on video, Partyman could have been added as well. That would have drawn in the people who weren't really Prince fans but were seeing the movie because they're into the Batman TV show/films.

Also, I think it would have been cool if Prince had done a small role in the film, nothing major, just a small role with maybe one or two lines.

Prince's performance of Electric Chair on SNL is one of his best TV performances, I think smile

No.
I think that having any music video at the end of a movie just looks like a cheap marketing tool, even though playing it on mtv is anyways...its a SOUNDtrack, shouldnt take away from the movie

I like the use of Scandalous at the end...even though the lyrics dont fit. Maybe an instrumental would have fit better.

I think they used the music enough. Using the Batdance song would just be too jumbled, and jaunted with the film that just ended! Tacky in fact!

Does anybody agree that the Madhouse reject '19(Jailbait)' would not have made a great choice for the soundtrack?

After all, it was originally intended to be 'The Batman Theme', before Tim Burton vetoed it. This Madhouse track even featured in the original trailer of the movie.

Anybody seen it?

I have the clip on a CD someone sent me. It's faintly amusing.

I too agree with the Purpleone. The movie didn't need Prince's songs. I think Danny Elfman did a fantastic job on the score, especially considering he had to make everyone forget the old 1960's "na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na BATMAN!!" camp, which I think he succeeded in doing.

As for putting Batdance at the end of the movie, I have to agree with CapedCrusader. I think it would have been tacky, and not in line with Prince's style. I, like everyone else would most certainly like to see the videos included in a Batman DVD, however!

Best,
Mr. Black

I read an interview with Tim Burton where he was basically dissing Prince and saying he regretted using his music in the film.I can't remember why he said that though.

I never heard that.
I dont know why Burton would say that, unless there were legal issues.

Then again Burton is an eccentric nut too...ah who cares, its too late to bitch Timmy!
