Did Prince's dress sense ever influence you?

I once bought a black and white polka dot shirt after seeing Livesexy. And I think I grew my hair long because I liked the way his long hair looked. Have you ever been influenced or seen someone replicate his look, like walking down the street or something?

Oh yeah, my mum got a jeweller to make up a solid silver symbol pendant which I wore on a chain around my neck. That was after the Nude Tour before he added the horn part to the symbol. I thought the way he meshed the male and female symbol was the coolest thing ever!

The fancy sleeves do, I have always admired clothing with flared sleeves.

Polka dot shirts were fashionable in the UK back in '88.I bought a couple at 'Top Man'.I'd like to think it was down to Prince that designers started stocking them.

I seem to remember owning a lot of paisley shirts too.

Merry Go Round and Chess King used to have those short double breasted suits ala Purple Rain

this one chap had a bad ass purple paisley Prince style suit jacket coat at ONA show in L.A. with big cuffs and all. Looked like Lestat.

Some boots I wore in the eighties were semi-inspired by him
He did bring recognition to trenchcoats as more fashion than neccessity

Yeah I'll admit it...

During my younger years I had some Prince inspired clothing. Mostly PR type stuff like shirts with ruffly cuffs, or lace gloves, etc.

I didn't ever wear a complete replica of any specific Prince outfit though.

What I mostly wanted to copy was:
Prince's eye makeup!! love Man, those eyes...I just wanted sexy, beautiful eyes like that!
also:
Sheila E.'s various hairdos (mostly the shorter do like she had for Romance 1600)
Appolonia's hair in Purple Rain

yes, during the "purple rain" period/era:

I tried to get my eyes to look like Prince's (after failing to do this I just started putting on purple eyeshadow)

I tried to get my hair to look exactly like Wendy's (I succeded)

I wore the lace gloves, ruffly shirts, I even had my very own trenchcoat (except it was pink and i wore it like once)

And I also had these shoes that were similar to Prince (they were black, so i wore them wih everything)

...and then after I did all that stuff I moved into my "madonna-wannnabe" mode,

I took a liking to paisley designs but conservatively expressed in neckties or even a button down casual shirt.

Partially cuz I've never worked in corporate America and mostly in the arts, I have a little bit more flexibility and have taken advantage of it.

But even with that, I am pretty ambivalent towards the hip hop aesthetic pervading much casual fashion these days. And I think listening to Prince all these years has made me much more adventurous than my peers.

I wouldn't go out and get anything as show stopping as some of his gear, but more subtle influences--colors, patterns, etc.

When I was a youngin' back in the 80's I had the vibe and look going of a compilation of Prince,Wendy and Morris Day. I'd hit the dancefloor about 3x a week and I always had some moves to match my attire. I scouted vintage and thrift stores for men's blazers that resembled a Morris look. I had the replica Purple Rain motorcycle jacket and the Purplewear ruffled shirts in 4 different colors. My hair was a mix of Prince and Wendy. I did the Prince impersonation for fun on Halloween two different years, and won a contest the the first year. At first I was a bit shy and embarrassed when I put on the clothes and did the makeup like Prince for Halloween and then I thought it looks damn good. lol The test came when I walked into the local shopping mall dressed as Prince on Halloween for my job. Heads turned, and jaws dropped and I just had to laugh at it all. One woman was talking on the telephone as I walked by and she looked at me and dropped the phone. lol It was a bit strange when I tried out for a tv show for impersonators back in the 80's and girls in the mall would walk up and ask for my autograph. I just smiled and kept on walking because that was embarrasing and silly.

Now, I'm just plain ole me. big grin

i think he has a beautiful sensual style and very feminin sometimes...

i have just got a hairdo like his in graffiti bridge... the only thing dat doesn't fit is my dyed hair.

but i pissed off dat i can't find a Prince inspired clothing these days...!!! i gues dat look is just not popular anymore
cause dat's shame, i like silk and his classical suit look wit all the funky jackets!
