Husneys: A Work In Progress 1977

Is this from a superior source than what's been released before?

No, it's not from a new source, just improved from what we had before.

It's great.

it sounds really great. prince says he wasn't influenced by jazz until around the mid 80s, but this is very mid to late 70s sounding jazz funk. it's amazing that it's not a recording by a band

Well according to info in The Vault he was joined on these recordings by Bobby Z and Andre Cymone.

It's the shit. Great artwork.

The Loring Park stuff is actually groovier than a lot of the later instrumental stuff, and I'm a fan of most of that. Crazy that it was so earlier on, where did this dude go?!

yeah, but it sounds like a tight 70s jazzfunk band, not something put together in the studio. i think of guys in afro's and duck blue flared suits jamming whilst not breaking a sweat or loosening the dickie bow

nothing like this

I always loved these. Instrumental #2 being my fav. Love Andre Cymon's Bass work (wish it was Prince on bass though) . Bobby Z plays pretty tight. Really cohesive.

a truly essential addition to any collection. I am sure I have these on 'the boom box sessions', some big assed 4 or 5 CD collection from very early on?, however the sound quality and artwork on this smaller set is brilliant. It kills me as to just how talented P was from such a young age. Genius, pre and simple - always was, always will be.

Really wish we had a lsit of all the players on this set.

It's assumed so. Little information is known about these recordings, only the year, venue and the three players. It is not known who played what on which tracks.

wow, didn't realise that Bobby was around for so long - must go and revisit my history of P .

Track 6 is my fave with some great muscianship and rubbery funk all over it.

Don't know what FBS is but it's neither, it's on Cosmic Records.

GFS were/are a pressed release label, this is a free download release.

Has anyone tried to burn these FLAC files to CD?

Some of the files are at 48khz, which would need to be converted down to 44.1khz in order to burn to CD.

Neither "Burrrn" nor "CDBurnerXP" can do that.

Is anyone using Audacity to convert?

My bad, I meant FBG (Free Boot Generation) -- they've had the primo releases of late so I thought this may be one of them...

If you're just a little bit more patient, you may find that the links will have been updated with new ones...

...of course that's just a wild guess on my part whistling
