She likes a variety of music, and it would be natural for a musician to appreciate Prince, as well as someone who makes songs to dance to.

She takes risks as an artist, and got past the sophomore jinx pretty fast. Still doesn't prove if she's novelty or her career has legs for the marathon the way Prince and Madonna have run theirs. Right now she's sprinting and basking in the glow.

He prob. keeps tabs on her to see how she's running her business, but prob. not something he's going to listen to more than once or twice.

I'm sure she'd love to work with him and record one of his songs.. better to do that than try to find a producer who would try to replicate it.

Yet he talks the hind heels off of Janelle Monae. Reading between the lines, "I said talk to me about music".

In another interview, he complained of the 80's synth sound return to the mainstream and calling out the fact it's become dumbed down and played an example of uninspired synth riffs on his piano that the interviewer noted sounded Gaga (or rather her producer ) like, then he followed it with how it should sound.

All this indicates one thing......

She's still got a long way to go, you can't compare someone who was opening act for New Kids 3 years ago to someone who's been doing it for twice her lifetime. Why say something about someone you might work with at some point? He also knows once he says it to a journalist, everyone's going to jump on it and blow it out of proportion.

It's like talking about Prince opening for Rick or the Stones and thinking he was going to go global from that. She went "viral" pretty fast and it was a fan driven build. She sunk her own money into her first theater tour and wasn't on the edge of glory, but the verge of bankruptcy.

She has the talent and takes the risks, but it's going to be years before we can say she's a fad or a true artist. I do think there's lessons learned from Prince as far as keeping in control of your own vision as an artist, but she's good at being able to separate the two worlds and keep her sanity. She knows who her friends are, she will prob. never move out of NYC and will prob. keep taking the subways and riding her bike through the city streets because she can deglitz herself and blend in.

Prince stays in Minnesota because he knows side streets if someone spots him on the road, and be enough of a presence among the locals to be left alone, & have them help protect his privacy from the tourists looking for him.

I don't know bout those other quotes, But he was asked what he thought about her and he replied " I'd have to meet her. (something to that effect)
