Why can't Prince have a website like this? Like a lot of fans, I wish Prince would get a website back up. Here is one model he could follow.
You may not like Blake Shelton's music, but look how easy he is making it for his fans. You can find: tour and product info, video links to all his recent TV appearances, fan message boards, and posts from Blake's hilarious Twitter feed. Most of all, there is a fan club that for $20 a year gives you access to the best live show seating, plus meet-and-greets before the concerts.
What other musicians do you think have good websites? And why do you think Prince hasn't had an official website for so long?

Is he touring and judging on The Voice around the same time because that website Tour column looks like he performing around the country while The Voice is going on???

There are dozens of artists/bands out there with fantastic websites who offer archive information and news, high quality photographs/video or links to such things, proper secure online stores where you can buy clothes, related memorabilia and music in numerous formats including physical copies. A lot of these sites offer free downloads of preview album tracks/live recordings/remixes/outtakes/whatever and some even have music players so you can listen to the people you are surfing through.
Why can't Prince have a website like this? There is no reason why he can't have a site like this. The only reason being is that he is an out of touch tit.

He doesn't want to. And if you fault him for that then oh fucking well.

I wondered about that, too. It looks to me like the episodes of The Voice that are airing now were taped late last year. There is a big gap in Blake's tour starting in the last part of March - maybe that is when the live The Voice episodes will start?

Must be...interesting? I didn't think he would repeatdly fly out to do a concert and then fly back in to judge on The Voice; that would be gruesome!

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Before the rest of the music industry followed.
And I'm not going to make any jokes about that t-shirt. No, I can restrain myself. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Why? No interest. | |

I noticed a bunch of shirts/cds are being sold at the african channel: http://www.theafricachannel.com/prince_buystuff.html
What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

He can. He chooses not to. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Having no official online presence at all is really stupid. Even a simple landing page with a bit of news every now and again and a discography linking to amazon would be better than nothing.
I imagine the org gets hit up when casuals/non-fans google Prince? To that end, and I say this with upmost respect for mods and site owners - the front page, especially the first screen-worth, is prime real estate for a website and I think the org could do a lot more than it is now to make a mark for itself and represent P. since it is the #1 site, whether P. likes it or not.

If he did it the way Bob Dylan does it, which is let your manager approve everything on your behalf, and just focus on creating music and touring, there would be a lot of material out right now. It sounds like he took a "throw it at the wall and see if it sticks" approach at a time the internet was an unknown frontier with possibilities.
Nothing beats going to a live show, he's not doing much to keep the catalog circulating, and there's not much money in it for him to reissue the back catalog. If he does, should just do it as one big comprehensive box set, buy the rest of his masters from Warners instead of taking it to the court house and waiting for the next 13 years to get the rest of it. He could easily get the money just from endorsements & private shows, would prob. take 3 "21 Night" runs to get it. But worth it.

Agreed.
When Prince finally realized that he could NOT control the Internet like he tried to control everything (and everyone) else, he packed up his ball and yelled "Yeah well I don't wanna play anymore anyway" and ran home to mommy [Edited 2/18/12 12:02pm] "Do you really know what love is?"

This is true, except for the mommy part... I hope.
