How does everyone feel about, No show Prince at The Revolution reunion? By now everyone knows that P was a No Show at the Rev reunion. I, for one came all the way from Dallas to see the show, and it was one of the greatest shows and weekend of my life. I EXPECTED P to come, just out of respect for the cause, I was not hoping for an outlandish show, just at the least a couple of nice words about the band and maybe a guitar riff. To me, him not showing up was almost disrespectful for Bobby Z's celebration. I say almost because I dont know what went on behind the scenes. It was about LOVE, something that P always preaches about. And if he wasn't going to preform he could have sent his regards, wrote a letter, sent some carrier pegions, smoke signals or something! I thought it was pretty rude, espically since the fans that were there, are true blue people because we traveled and showed up for the celebration weather or not P was going to be there. I was disappointed, but maybe I shouldn't expect that much from P anymore, and then again I don't know what was going on behind the scenes. Other than that The concert was Beautiful, I was in tears by the end of the night because of all the love that filled the room. I meet everyone in the band, and went home with the set list that was onstage, partied with my beautiful purple friends, and it was truely a weekend to remember. I had a great time, and I'm still on a Revolution high.
How does everyone else feel about P not showing up? (I mean even his sister showed up. Im going to call P, "No Show Prince" for now on...well maybe just for the next couple of weeks.) I'll shock you with my lips.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that maybe Prince has EARNED the right to move on. Fuck, can't the man do as he pleases like everyone else?

kinda would have taken away some of the specialness if he did show up though wouldnt it? this way the spotlight was on them Bogey and Bacall, peanut butter and jelly, Wall being on fucking point, is "classic" dipshit. That was to be expected. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I was disappointed, but it's pretty typical of him. He always shuns these things.

I really doubt much media attention would get together over this, most people dont know what the hell the revolution is. you people need to step outside of the prince megafan bubble for a second. and besides the guy can write a fat ass check that would do so much more for the cause than if he showed up a hundred times over [Edited 2/21/12 2:30am] Bogey and Bacall, peanut butter and jelly, Wall being on fucking point, is "classic" dipshit. Prince always says that he doesn't like to talk or dwell on the past..Ok so he plays alot of his past hits at shows but on that basis, I didn't think he would show up.Plus it was too predictable..Not prince's style
Over the years lots of bands have reformed and I for one like the idea that some just leave the image of their glories in the past .Reunions will inevitably be compared to the past and that in a way can tarnish the brilliance. So maybe it's better to have the image sounds and clips of the revolution in their original state as youngsters?

No, you don't do you? We have no idea that Prince did not send a note, make a donation, send his regards or otherwise.
Prince was right not to attend. It was a "Revolution" reunion, not a "Prince & The Revolution" reunion.

How do I feel? I think we need more threads about The Revolution reunion. Why make just 10 or 20?

I guess I understand what you're trying to say. I just feel like the specialness of being the stars that night would overweigh the specialness of being back together with prince for the first time in ages. I guess we'd have to ask them Bogey and Bacall, peanut butter and jelly, Wall being on fucking point, is "classic" dipshit. An iphone is top shelf technology. Get it straight. ^True. But I dunno... I feel they would have loved him to do it, and I bet that there was some level of disappointment that he didn't. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

No Prince isnt obligated, but it's a slap in the face that he refuses to cooperate with his "former friends".
The man will jump on stage with Amy Winehouse, Macy Gray, Common, QTip, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce...whoever.
But when the folks that were there for him when he was starting out, who have not reached the level of notoriety that he has since he sent them on their way, practically beg him to throw them a bone - NOPE. He'll have dinner with you and maybe write a check to help you, but fuck the music and what the fans want. Why? Because he's not in total control?
I saw a pic of Larry Graham backstage at the show. Personally saw John Blackwell at Sheila's show in LA back in 2000 whatever. There is no excuse whatsoever. Again...it's his prerogative, but it's still disrespectful.

I remember in the 90s,during an interview,Prince said that he doesn't hold on to the past because "attachment is stagnation".

Why do so many live in the past. Get over it, the revolution was over 25 years ago.

Imagine that Prince has two unreleased albums in the vaults and he is deciding which one to release. One album was recorded in late 1984 with the Revolution. The other album was recorded in 2007.Be honest....which album would you want him to release?

i think thats a lame argument since that album is by the 1984 prince+the revolution, which is a lot different than the right now prince + the revolution Bogey and Bacall, peanut butter and jelly, Wall being on fucking point, is "classic" dipshit. U guys don't get it - Prince WAS there. He was part of the audience watching the show (except in the VIP area that is). Peace in the House of Prince.

When it comes to Prince, his music and his performances I have become kind of disillusioned lately.
I don't know what to think anymore.....
He does not "rock my world" these years - like he used to back THEN:
To answer the question: I don't care much about a Prince & The Revolution reunion, however I would love to see Wendy & Lisa back on stage with him...
It was cool in 2006, too bad the award performance/ appearance wasn't that great, Te Amo Corazon... that's not the kind of song I would love them to play.
But,
Prince & The Revolution - a tour could be great if they played some of the original - edgy - and funky stuff!!
But wouldn't they be a little rusty after all those years? Prince 4Ever.

It was silly to expect him to show up in the first place, so you only disappointed yourself. Just sayin'. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

This thread illustrates how P can't win. Look how many ways his actions have been interpreted.
My own view is that he showed his support by allowing the use of the name Revolution. He also allowed the Revolution the chance to shine in their own right. It was their reunion that they had organised. It would have been impossible for him to turn up, even briefly, without the whole event being about his appearance.
From all reports the show was amazing and I would have loved to have been there to see it. Congratualations to the Revolution on a successful event and well done Prince for letting them have the limelight.

For most of the show I did not care at all. It was way cooler to have Wendy on lead vocals, as I said in the other thread. It was also amazing to have Dez up there along with Wendy. Plus, Brownmark got to shine in a way that he didn't when Prince was running the show.
However, I will admit that the various rumors about whether Prince would or would not show up for the last couple of songs were a bit of a distraction at the end. I kept looking off to the side of the stage for him instead of focusing on Wendy and the band. That's why I'm looking forward to the DVD if there is one, and I really hope it becomes an annual event.
