"But it was Saturday night, I guess that makes it all right"

A landmark record in 1983, and #Prince 's first Top Ten hit, does it still appeal today?

Ahhh Yes!!! Released in February of 1983 I believe, and that one of his few songs that still get radio air play or is a mentionable to the general public playlist.

It will always appeal to me, and the lyric line "But it was Saturday night, I guess that makes it all right" is so easy relatable how could it not be a landmark of some sorts today? But times have change todays term of "cool" is almost utter ignorance 2 me.

Think I'll put that vinyl on 2day smile the vinyl i have sounds perfect

ItsGonnaBLonely,

I didn't realise that regarding radio airplay but it makes sense.

And you're spot on regarding the relatability of the Saturday night scenario.

I hadn't listened to the song properly for a long time, but it's becoming an absolute favourite, again.

Vinyl rocks; I wish I still I had a player.

Kazzy88,

You may be right. The lyrics are just, so...right.

"I guess I shoulda known

By the way you parked your car sideways

That it wouldn't last"

And the way he sings those lines.

Lord, have mercy!

It still appeals to me but I don't think it does with today's youth. Back then the use of metaphor was a part of writing but today's fast n furious renegades are all about the specific in your face sexual explicit....for the most part imo.

Cool, the bottom says promotional copy, not for sale. What does that mean? sorry if its a silly question, but im wondering if it were a copy, made in limited release, just for the use of listening, and wasnt available in stores, like a demo version perhaps? Do explain? are is it just a distribution law? I have a few records that say the same

Promo copies were (are) generally given to radio stations (for example). You are correct - they were not to be sold, as they were given for free.

The promo copy was sent to radio stations and bigger dance clubs so the DJ's would play the song, not very rare. The second one is a 12" single from Belgium, the version with just the picture is the Belgium 7" single or the 45.

The video
The lyrics
The delivery
The hands caressing the mike
The lusciousness of the lips with that slight sheen to them
The come hither eyes peaking from under that curly mass
The split
The pointing in the camera...ehem speaking to me.....

This is my favourite Prince song, it got me into Prince cool

I love every version of this song, especially the recent live versions.

"Listen. I might be a bit too forward girl, I just might be a bit too blue. But I think you know what I want. I want you. If you'd rather be with them others, then I got news for you. I got 50 thousand here who'll sing with me. Ain't nobody do it like Prince do. Slow down, you're moving much too fast. Slow down, you need a love that's gonna last."

I love the LP version from 1999 but his new performances of it have this brilliant sense of yearning, all soulful with red lights and mist. Among my 25 ABSOLUTE FAVORITE Prince songs, this might be my really-o truly-o favorite, especially for driving. Every day is Saturday night in my motor vehicle.

I like the way you worded that "Come hither eyes" describes them mystical pools known as his eyes perfectly

WinterIsComing

Definitely one of his finest pop moments. The fact that he cleverly used metaphors and melody to make a song about a fast girl sound so appealing was incredible. I like how "Little red corvette" and to a larger degree "When doves cry" showed how Prince made the mainstream come to him.

Again, this is the 12" single from Belgium, the 7" single doesn't have the gray outer area. This is not a fake wink

I had loved his music for sometime before this record but this was the moment I fell in love with him. OMG that video still MAKES ME HOT. His eyes, I still think he is singing just to me. I think it gets more air time than any other Prince song and as far as standing up today it is the only Prince song that my 18 year olds mates all seem to want to hear and sing along to.

If your refering to radio in general, than yes Little Red Corvette is his most popular radio song today, however on R&B stations When Doves Cry and Do Me Baby, get more airplay, and with that said shockingly Adore comes in @ 4th place. These are the only P songs ive heard on the radio in the last 8yrs. & Little Red Corvette is the only one thats played through out the day.
