I had the great fortune to talk to Don Cornelius a couple years ago. I asked why they didnt have prince on soul train back in the day. His reply was after prince pulled that stunt on american bandstand, they didnt want to book him. so he didnt do it out of fear that prince would do the whole dont talk thing. He went further to say that it was a mistake not to have him on.

so folks can now stop with that "kunta konsciousness" mess that's always been a bone of contention for some fans...although its a funny ass term lol

Adorecream's post was funny though lol I loved jpnyc's post afterwards. lol

I thought you had to be invited to perform on Soul Train. Maybe Don Cornelius saw P on Bandstand and thought he was too wild or something like that?

The original version of Parliament/Funkadelic never played on Soul Train, either supposedly because Don Cornelius didn't like that Garry Shider (P-Funk guitarist) wore a diaper onstage.

yeah, but he allowed these people to performed in these getups lol

He only finally did Soul Train when he was a "slave" in 1994. If he had never been "enslaved" and subsequently felt abandoned by white people he never would have performed on that awesome show.

And Don Cornelius played Prince's music several times during the broadcasts in the 80s, so I doubt he would have declined any offer for Prince to be a guest back then. It was Prince himself who didn't want to do it when he was young and new.

hehehe just like Michael became 'black' later on in life

I don't see how he felt abandoned by white people, especially not Europeans

soul train is about marketing your music. prince in 1979 didn't really known how to market his music across the board. he let his maangment talk him out of doing soul train because they play black music, even though he could have rectify the sistution about working with don on how to come across the soul train gang on the verbal side and perform two of his songs.

That's actually not accurate. Michael (solo) was on Soul Train several times, and would have performed there also during the 80s if his presence wouldn't have shut the studio down due to stampeding fanatics. Why do you think MJ never did American Bandstand or Midnight Special anymore either? He was too huge at that point for all of those types of programs, regardless of whether they were aimed for Black or Caucasian audiences. Plus, despite his choice of wives and the way his children look, Michael's been Black. You apparently never saw MJ's 80s interviews with Ebony-Jet Showcase, which you couldn't have paid Prince to be on back then, even during the time he was talking to interviewers in '85-86.

And yes, Prince all of a sudden starting touting "we Black folks" during unusual appearances on Black shows in the 90s when he believed The Man and his people weren't supporting his albums anymore. This is not new, and has been discussed here in the past. lol And I was referring to his American fanbase, which is all he ever seemed to be focused on.

Prince rarely made any TV appearances in his hey days because he refused 2 b interviewed. Solid Gold was perfect 4 him. Because they didn't require an interview. But it added 2 his mystic. Plus Prince would have NEVER let Don interview him. Which is why he only appeared on as guest host Holly Robinson...

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince
