"How often are you listening to this bootleg"

No harm or offence intended,

BUT: Reason for me to ask, is I have "The Work" series, and I am never listening to those songs anymore....

I mean Computer Blue, long version is brilliant, the rest bores me...

(when I need to listen to the 1986 outtake stuff I prefer the Box O' Chocolates bootleg)

(and, I have never had a need to upgrade from "The Work" to the "Work It" series)....

no, i think it's just the best sounding versions they could find. many things were upgraded from the versions that were previously released. the people that put it out claim it's the best sounding set of this material that exists.

It was at the time of it's release, but there have been other releases since then that contain certain material in better quality, for example 30 Years Of Unreleased Funk, Box Of Chocolates, Parade Demos, The Exodus Has Begun, and possibly others that I can't think of right now.

Work It 2.0 is still a fantastic release though, and it's never been bettered in terms of quantity. It's still a great starting point and essential for anyone with more than a passing interest in outtakes.

My guess is that you are bored with these tracks because you have had them for years, you must admit that the first time you obtain a collection like Work It/Work It 2.0 it is an eargasm of stuff you have never heard before.

I still listen to some of the tracks on 2.0 from time to time despite having some of the songs since pre internet boot collecting.

Exactly, I have to admit what you just wrote --- you are absolutely right, the first time I heard these songs LONG LONG time ago... I absolutely LOVED them - true,

however, not so much anymore, they have faded for me, as time has gone by...

Right, I don't wanna sound too ungrateful towards this collection, the early stuff from 1970s-1980s is actually good. I wish Prince would dust these off, and re-release those ALBUMs (maybe For You 1978 to Lovesexy 1988) --- with the best outtakes as bonus...

but.... this is never gonna happen in my life time..

At the moment i'm working my way through them. I do 11 hour shifts sat on my own with an hour each way commuting to work, so I thought I might as well get round to it.

It is work and study doing it like this as I know there's stuff I've never played (even though i've had on other sets), But i'm actually finding new favourites.

Also the mid 90's stuff is blowing my brain at the moment far more than the early 80's stuff. The remixes of Come are top draw honest to god some of his best work ever.

Gold Experience, Chaos and Disorder and Exodus outtakes and demos just drope my draw at what an inspired yet disciplined artist he is.

But yeah there's some throw away crap in there but it's 36 cd's of stuff he didn't see fit to release so the fact there is so much quality has to be respected

well, i have been a fan since 82 and i always quested after the unreleased stuff like camille and other things that were well documented. but when i found this, about 6 weeks ago, i was in awe since there is just so much of it. i have some of the other releases that the digital gardener mentioned and of them the 30 years set is superb. but right now i have been going through this new to me batch of work it 2.0 one cd at a time just to hear it all in order and take it all in. there is a lot on there that i had heard before and some tracks that i won't be running right back to hear again, but there is so much cool stuff in here that bears repeated listening. starting this week, i've been trying to find the time for one full cd per day. so i have about 29 more days to go. LOL.

what i really want to do is get one of per nilsen's books and listen to the songs as i read the entries on the song/sessions. i have a background in music production/engineering, so hearing the subtle changes from track to track really fascinates me. and having some tech info to go with it would give even more perspective, so that's the goal.

The Uptown/Per Nilsen books are great, but they can be a bit outdated now in terms of accurate information. As time passes, new and more accuare information is learned and gathered about songs. recording sessions and techniques. The Uptown books were great at the time (The Vault still holds a special place in my collection) and are still very useful, but if it is a song by song analysis you require then there is no better source than http://www.princevault.co.../Main_Page

The people at princevault have taken much information from the Uptown books but also provide the very latest information regarding any given track (and much much more). In fact i'm sure that a couple of the people involved with the site were involved with Uptown but don't quote me on that.

If you are not aware of the site, click A-Z Song list in the navigation box, then click on any song title for information regarding recording times and venues, musicians used, unreleased versions and much more. All the info you could need. If there is no or little information about any given track it means there is none known, but the site is constantly updated by the team there.

I love it. I don't 'listen' to it though. I dip into it, create my own 'what if' albums and playlists, for that it's invaluable.

I'm very proud of my itunes library with 1982's Purple Music album, 1984's Dance Electric album... And I'm currently working on a Prince/Wendy & Lisa album from 1985/6 that would knock your socks off
