Dear Prince fans: What time is it? -- time to jump off the purple train, 2012?

As a long time Prince follower, I am -still- soooo very very un-satisfied:

1. Prince won't release live DVDs... from his still great concerts..... (for whatever reason only HE knows)...

2. Prince won't re-release his back catalogue re-mastered... (again only HE knows WHY)...

3. Prince reminds me of a "burned out" musician, he is extremely skilled, always will be, like heaven knows, but he isn't able to release a decent album.......

4. "Extraloveable 2011"...... what a joke... in line for the worst Prince song since that terrible song "Purple And Gold" cry

5. More complaints especially for you... ahh nevermind lol

Anyone else here a bit frustrated/ a bit tired following Prince's journey question

-- what HOPE do we have: the future for us Prince fans will be bright in 2012.... question

Ps: I feel like a very grumpy old man, repeating my message about "Prince music these days/years sucks". Maybe I should just shut up, hold in with my complaints and leave the Org in silence...

But everything was so much better, (especially the Prince albums) in the good old Warner Bros days 1978 to 1995, hell and heaven I miss those "days of wild".

I hear you. I am especially bummed about the lack of LIVE dvd releases, and the back catalog. However, this is far from being a rough time to be a Prince fan. It is just kinda quiet.

Also, if you hop off a train...usually you don't go up and down the aisles telling other passengers you are going to do it. Prove it and stop posting smile

Prince has the right to make whatever music he wants to today, but not remastering and preserving the back-catalogue is unforgivable, in my opinion. I feel the same way about George Lucas.

Well, I'm not as spiteful as some members here seem to be, but I have to agree. Prince is a difficult man to be a fan of. His non-presence on the internet, his lack of concert DVD's when you *know* how orgasmic his concerts are, his absolute genius as a musician vs. the disappointing consistency of his recent music… I mean, the man is a wonderful artist but he ain't no businessman.

Hes 30 years into his career..and you are expecting what exactly? His heyday was in the 80's, over 20 years ago. And you're expecting what exactly? He is in his 50's, and you are expecting what exactly?

Im attempting to follow your needs here but they are not making sense.

I'll survive.

2. Prince won't re-release his back catalogue re-mastered... (again only HE knows WHY)...

I'll wait and keep hoping, it's only been 22 years...

3. Prince reminds me of a "burned out" musician, he is extremely skilled, always will be, like heaven knows, but he isn't able to release a decent album.......

That's a personal opinion, I respectfully disagree and therefore ask you to keep in mind that your opinion is just an opinion. I enjoyed recent albums a lot, and I've been around, as said earlier, for the last 22 years.

4. "Extraloveable 2011"...... what a joke... in line for the worst Prince song since that terrible song "Purple And Gold" cry

I really dislike Purple And Gold, but I deeply enjoy Extraloveable 2011, so I can't really follow you on that. Extraloveable brought me a LOT of happiness these last few weeks.

5. More complaints especially for you... ahh nevermind lol

I'm cool, dude.

Anyone else here a bit frustrated/ a bit tired following Prince's journey question

Not really, just wish he'd release more stuff, including new stuff (and not only vault stuff).

-- what HOPE do we have: the future for us Prince fans will be bright in 2012.... question

I don't know, wait and see. Lots of other great stuff to listen to in the meantime anyway...

Ps: I feel like a very grumpy old man, repeating my message about "Prince music these days/years sucks". Maybe I should just shut up, hold in with my complaints and leave the Org in silence...

Maybe... I don't know, what are you hoping? That Prince reads what we write and care? What's your point/purpose in the end?

But everything was so much better, (especially the Prince albums) in the good old Warner Bros days 1978 to 1995, hell and heaven I miss those "days of wild".

Certainly it was much better for you and I'm really sorry about that. It was just as good for me ever since than back then.

He never said or felt, from what he said, that it was over. He made a couple of hot records lately in my book. He doesn't care what you (or me, for that matter) think because he's a grown-up professional who knows exactly what he's doing and keeps earning millions doing it anyway. And i'm quite sure he's still 100% honest about his music, just as much as he was "back then".

He must have released something like 15 jams online this year.

No record, no DVD, sure, and no website as well, but he's definitely online lol

Bootlegs! We did get a release of the Montreux show. There's another professionally filmed concert set to be released soon plus we got some great audio bootlegs in recent years.

It is frustrating that he seems unwilling to release more of his back catalog but it helps a lot when we get great bootleg releases. I would love to give him my money for those releases but if he won't make the music/video available for purchase I will grudgingly get it for free. lol

Generally, I have actually quite enjoyed his recent albums but it has been kind of quiet the last couple of years. I'm still waiting for that deluxe version of 20Ten. razz

We know. Every post you make including your avatar explains this.

1. Prince won't release live DVDs... from his still great concerts..... (for whatever reason only HE knows)...

Why do you complain? Bootlegs exist. Prince doesn't need to lift a finger when it comes to live shows being released. Fans do all that shit for you. Chill.

2. Prince won't re-release his back catalogue re-mastered... (again only HE knows WHY)...

The same shit 30 years ago but higher quality. I'll sleep just fine.

3. Prince reminds me of a "burned out" musician, he is extremely skilled, always will be, like heaven knows, but he isn't able to release a decent album.......

He released Lotusflow3r. NEXT!

4. "Extraloveable 2011"...... what a joke... in line for the worst Prince song since that terrible song "Purple And Gold" cry

Some dig it Extralovable 2011, and some don't.

Purple and Gold was solely meant for a Super Bowl anthem.

Just like Wedding Feast was just an interlude.

So it doesn't phase me if it sucks.

Anyone else here a bit frustrated/ a bit tired following Prince's journey question

I'm satisfied. I think other people should be as well and maybe a little more appreciative he still releases albums.

-- what HOPE do we have: the future for us Prince fans will be bright in 2012.... question

Who knows?

Ps: I feel like a very grumpy old man, repeating my message about "Prince music these days/years sucks". Maybe I should just shut up, hold in with my complaints and leave the Org in silence...

I agree.

These threads about how Prince's new music sucks and how much he's not giving you is quite depressing and pathetic. I don't agree with it. Sorry.

But everything was so much better, (especially the Prince albums) in the good old Warner Bros days 1978 to 1995, hell and heaven I miss those "days of wild".

Me too, but I've moved on.

Prince still has to deal with Warners when it comes to the back catalog.

I do think he should be doing something with the post Warners catalog and compiling a "best of" because a lot of it's gone out of print. People are just going to file share & trade to get it anyway.

He's waiting to see how things play out with the recording industry and artists, so he's sticking to focusing on live performance.

I'm thinking he's going through the vault if he's put "Extraloveable" out.

Creativity and logic don't always match up.

The best thing for a fan to do is to create their own music.
