Prince has still got it live Right now I'm listening to a boot Prince live on July 7, 2007. I've gotta say, he still slays live. Absolutely phenomenal performer, and that's just from the audio. Although I wish I could've seen him back in 1980-84, I have to agree with those who say that he's still phenomenal live.

The "classic era" shows are great, and I like quite a lot of the 90's gigs too. One of my favourite live era's would have to be the ONA tour, I don't think there was a bad or even an average show performed during that period, and that was the last time I attended a Prince show and I feel blessed to have seen him from '92, through the 90's and up to ONA. I like a lot of the live material up to and including 2009, some great shows were performed during 2008/9. However, the gigs performed during the 20Ten and W2A tours just sound tired and very dull to me, he was of course playing "hits" type shows before the 20Ten tour but they just felt like they had more of a spark before then. I never attended any of those 20Ten/W2A gigs so of course I only have audio and/or video to go on but of all the recordings available from those two tours I struggled to get through a full gig. There have been a few highlights from the W2A shows though, mainly the gigs that were not regular tour dates. However, despite my feelings on certain tours, I agree, yes he does still have "it" to play a great show, and at least he and his band do play rather than just perform. It could be worse.

This isn't news to me. Obviously he's the best performer doing it. [Edited 2/2/12 14:24pm]

prince wont ever loose it in till he is in a purple wheel chair. even though he is no longer jumping off of pianos and hitting the splits. his musicianship is at its peak imo. . . example = every superbowl half time show since prince's.. pales in comparison.

He more than "still has it." He continues to develop. Any musician of any age would yearn to be that good live. [Edited 2/2/12 20:20pm] Philmoreliz

Yes, he can play the hits. But the essence is about not just the hits, really. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

true, now if we can get him to find what he has lost in the studio and put out a decent cd!

That surprises you?
People wouldn't still be dropping everything to go get tickets to see him if he couldn't pull it off live anymore. λΉ„

I didn't say that it surprised me. All I said was that he's good live.
