July 31st 1993 - Act II Tour - Aftershow in London? I used to be a member of the now defunct Controversy Fan Club in the UK, and attended the Act II tour show at Wembley Stadium on 31 July 1993. On our way back to the car park, we just happened to walk past someone shouting "Controversy Members" over here!
We were given two tickets to the aftershow and told where it was. After nearly dying of excitment we rushed off in the car, and luckily had an A-Z of London, and found our way to the show.
My question? Where was I? I think I was in Kentish Town, but if so, have no idea which venue.
Do you know? Were you there too?
I would really like to know where I spent those marvelous few hours of my life!!!

I'm actually curious about this gig as it was the only gig in the act II tour to be played in the stadium as opposed to arena + wasn't this Prince's time in Wembley stadium?
Anyone got any interesting stories or info?
How well did it sell?
What was atmosphere/sound like etc?
Would be cool to hear? | |

Wembley 93 was my first Prince show. I don't remember a great deal about it really, just remember trying to make my way as far forward as i could. I think it sold out, or close to it. The crowd seemed a similarsize to those for MJ and Madonna on the Bad and Who's That Girl tours. RIP ![]()

Edinburgh's Act II gig was in an outdoor stadium.

And yes, it was his first time at Wembley Stadium. He was due to play two gigs at the stadium during the SOTT tour but as you know they were cancelled.

The Wembley Stadium show was actually my most disappointing Prince show. I remember walking out of the stadium without that usual Prince high, but then of course was given the tickets to the aftershow, and had the most fantastic time ever! A day of lows and highs. Afterwards I vowed never to see him 'outdoors' again. Thankfully I finally broke this vow in 2010 in Arras and again last summer at the Hop Farm both much smaller venues than Wembley Stadium, Arras was great, but the Hop Farm was, for me, the best show for many, many years, even better I thought than the final night at the O2.

Correction to above - I should have said my ONLY disappointing Prince show!

I too was a Controversy member and got tickets from Maureen Murton ( hope she is well as not heard much about her)
The show and day was very memorable as i met my wife in the que at Wembley !! got chatting in que and went into concert...she went to one half of staduim ..i went to another..after the show bumped into each other again..what are the chances !! exchanged numbers and been married for 15 years !!!

I agree about the O2 main show, that while it was good, Hop Farm was better. Did you go to the last night after show at the O2? That was a great show. RIP ![]()

Great story.
It was actually Eileen rather than Maureen and I heard she got very disillusioned with the hot-and-cold communication with Prince. Shame; Controversy was a fantastic fanzine in the non-Internet age and a lifeline for fans at the time. I too went to the Forum gig which was absolutely amazing and actually got a letter printed in Controversy 43 reviewing the aftershow.
Good times! Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.
