Make your bet - could this year be the end?

Could 2012 be the first time we go two years in a row without a new record?

Or will P keep up his usual streak of following a year off with a winner?

What's your bet?

I would like to see a new website. No subscription but just
a well laid out, transparant store.

In it, he could sell all the albums he released post warner
in remastered, slightly rearranged or tweeked versions with
bonus/outtake tracks or just cool tracks he recorded at the
time close to the album being finished.

It could even be a sort of reversed countdown where he would
release an album a month, starting with 20Ten and working
his way back all the way to Emancipation.

Once that is done, the countdown ends and we can buy physical
copies of his warner material being remastered 3 at a time,
also with outtakes.

That's my wish.

My prediction tho: first, an Andy Allo album. A month or two
later, or perhaps in early summer, a new Prince disc. It will
not be groundbreaking and people will cry and moan. But I'm
fairly certain that I will enjoy it and listen to it a lot,
continuing to dream about fleshed out remasters at the same
time.

I don't know why, but for some reason for the first time I have a feeling there'll be no disk this year.

It's not even the end of January yet - you don't think you're jumping the gun in a huge fucking way by assuming there'll be noooo disk this year?

I say wait it out and see - at the bare minimum, wait until we're at least halfway into the year before going "I don't think there will be a disk this year", instead of already assuming things when we're only three weeks in, geez.

No album

Prince has pretty much finished making new music. I would expect him to put out some sort of greatest hits thing though.

I suspect he may produce a protege album.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I wouldn't be surprised if he's just been pulling shit out of the vault not for several years, and changing the lyrics up and such.

I'm not sure I ever want to see another Prince website either, because he sucks ass at them. Plus, his camp gets sue happy whenever one is up.

I'd say it's 50/50 chance something is release and the Andy Allo album is 50/50 too depending

on whether their public romance benefits his publicity.

Its not that I don't enjoy his new works, it's that I want him to concentrate on fixing the WB relationship to start a remasters/box sets project. We have tons of his music already we don't need anymore. Lets get to setting the legacy projects in motion.

I agree that there will be a release of his put with Andy's so that people will buy it. Otherwise no one will buy hers except for what...maybe 5% of the die hard fans here.

This is my bet, too, though I hope I'm wrong. Even though I didn't much like the last album, I'm still hoping for a new one soon.

And I'm also doubtful that we'll get an Andy Allo album. We didn't get the Tamar or Shelby J album either..

If he sold downloadable music from his website, could he also sell previous versions of his first songs? Or even the demo tracks he made belong to WB?

Since he couldn't (could he?) sell his first albums through a website, I'd love to see a second disc per each disc he released with WB.

Something like For You: The Second Disc.

A collection of the best outtakes per era.

Well, yeah.

He can release re-recordings of the WB songs, but they own the recordings that are on the albums.

As for outtakes from the WB years, I assume Prince owns them, being that he released some of them post-WB (on Crystal Ball and through the NPGMC) without a mention of WB (iirc).

He has been recording... Most recently with Maceo and Trombone Shorty at Paisley Park, but whether or not it's for a Prince release, and whether or not it will be released is undeterminable.

Prince will stop producing after he dies or becomes disabled. Not a moment before. You can bank on that.

He crafted on the lotusflower title disc for
about 3 years, didn't he? I mean those songs
reach back in part to 2006.

Just goes to show that if he sets aside some
songs that go well together and then goes on
to work on them some more and move stuff off
it or on it, he can still come up with very
well made albums.

That is, imo, lol. Than again, a lot of folks
around here would agree with me that it's an
amazing album and one of his very best since
all the way back to 1995.

I agree with that, I love Lotusflow3r!! And I would be happy to get a new album with a lot of guitar-driven songs, like Dreamer, sometime this year. I wouldn't bet on it, but certainly hope for a new Prince CD in 2012! - As someone else said, the first month of the year isn't even over yet - so let's just be patient!!

I agree with this. People say you can't have both quality and quantity - but Prince and The Beatles both had many critically and commercially successful albums in an 8/9 year period.

Then people think that somehow taking a lot of time on an album will make it good... a lot of garbage albums took years to make. Then you had Michael Jackson who spent years and years working on an Invincible follow up, 'cause he's a "perfectionist" ( rolleyes ), and you see what happened there (in case you didn't - he died 8 years later without a new album).

Prince will make an album, and it will be good or it won't. More space in between albums doesn't equal better albums. If you believe that you can't have quality and quantity - then you'd have to admit that Prince's music has always sucked.. because he was always very prolific - even in the 1980s.
