Prince's motorcycle:badass or wimpy? i recently saw someone riding an old 1980's Honda motorcycle that looked just like Prince's from the front side and I got pretty excited cause I always look for them on the road and have found them to be very rare. Later that same day I told my wife that I had just seen a bike like the one in Purple Rain and she responded "was it a goofy guy riding it"? i was surprised by her response and asked what she meant, she said that the bike had always looked wimpy like a scooter and that Prince should have used a more manly bike in the movie. Although she was right about the guy riding the bike that day, I had always thought the bike was hot since i first saw the album sleeve as a kid. But i am not a bike guy and know nothing about them so i wanted to ask you your opinion: Is the Purple Rain motorcycle badass (or at least cool) or wimpy? would you ride one or is it a bike only Prince could look good on?

I always thought it looked cool (:

Well, what would you expect someone still living in the basement of his parents to ride?
Men seem to be awfully concerned about what women find wimpy these days.

Why would it be wimpy? Motorcycles kick ass!

Honestly the bike in "Purple Rain" has always been badass to me. I don't know how cool it would look out on the street in this day and age though. I think like most shit that was cool in past decades, it really wouldn't go over well in the modern era. 비

Interesting that your wife should mention a scooter.
The bike in PR is a Honda Hondamatic CM400a which has a two speed automatic gearbox, which is rather scooterish.
Nice looking bike though, but it ain't no hog.
Also, those purple fenders and the back bar like the ones on the PR bike were aftermarket add ons, the original bike looks something like this http://www.motorera.com/h...ati400.htm

he dumped that for some wheels like PeeWee Herman. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

[Edited 1/28/12 8:02am] Right! that 1981 bike is the exact one i believe and it looks pretty tough to me. maybe its the front windshield piece that gives it more of a scooter look, but i like that piece the most! thats how i recognized the bike on the road.

(the movie itself didnt help)

Wasn't that a Honda Goldwing?
At any rate it is no badass.
It is not a V twin. When you drive a v twin motorcycle with good pipes, you drive down the road, and you sound like THUNDER.

I honestly wonder if there were very many Harleys Prince could have ridden. Many of them are too big for someone his size.
My sweetie rides a Harley. He's six inches taller than Prince (so not a huge guy) and there are some Harleys that are too big for him, too. (He rides a Heritage Softail Deluxe Classic.) We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Interesting point, I don't think the actual riding would be a problem, maybe the weight of a Harley could be problematic for smaller people, it can be a challenge keeping a heavy bike upright at traffic lights etc, especially on a windy day etc. Maybe, i'm just guessing. Makes me want my bike back now chatting about this.

It definitely had to do with size.

You are probably right about the weight being a consideration for Prince.
My DH has a 1600 Roadstar and he is always bragging about how not everyone is big enough/strong enough to ride that heavy of a bike.
Anyway, I am sure there is a Harley that would fit Prince. There is a girl that rides in a club that we ride with and she rides a Harley. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

my dad knows everything about cars and motorcycles, and he said that is a really small bike, but u have to have it the right size, if it was any bigger prince would look tiny. but i wouldnt call it wimpy, prince makes it badass Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine

You have to wonder what kind of motorcycle he's have customized now for a movie.
