At this stage of his career Prince should... ?

Do what? What would you do if you were Prince at this point and make his career even more impresive and artistic?name your examples. I would like for Prince to : 1) compose music for movies, real scores in the way Danny ELfman do. 2) tour for his movie music with classical orchestra 3) start making cameos or more serious acting roles 4) release killer album with songs from vault 5) reunite with all living bend members from GAyle chapman to LEvi

He should open the vault, settle down, and start a family. Maybe it'll give him real inspiration again. I think a few years off scene, just enjoying life, would do him good.

He should let The-Dream produce him... or at least co-produce. Prince could take this recent spate of melancholy r&b and jack it UP! I like what Drake, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd are doing with r&b, but I think Prince could easily snatch the template and flip it on its ear. It's a new palette, and Prince needs to start throwing the paint.

^^ Agree with those two bolded parts. He mentioned that he'd love to play Little Richard - that needs to happen! But doing movie scores and good movie roles (i.e., roles that he didn't write and direct himself!) would require too much "subordination" or what other people would call "collaboration." (I mean, too much for him - he seems too independent to do scores or other people's movie roles).

Also I would like something more in the "jazz" tradition - good sign working w/ Trombone Shorty. He's not a purist in any genre, as the discussion on the blues thread points out, which is a good thing so I think he can take the "jazz" tradition somewhere new.

He should do whatever he wants, and not worry about what people might think, like he often hasn't.. But he should do multiple nights in montreal this june.

He won't do it because he's too much of a control freak, but I wished he would...to say it bluntly...throw himself to some of those hot cats right now in the game. Let them force Mr. P to open up, be outside the box. Thing is, I don't see him accepting one of them (surely one possibly in his diapers while 1999 was selling like outcakes) telling him to his face that a certain song idea or track take SUCKED. Can you?

What else? In these last days of CD, strike some sort of deal with WB and get his catalogue remastered. Not just his, but all those Paisley Park releases.

... withold CDs from the American market, lavish gifts and unwarranted attention on a young protege, fuel speculation that they're romantically involved and leak a bunch of subpar examples of his latest music and tour sporadically.

It's a winning formula.

1. Have an epiphany and come to his senses to leave the JW group. Their influence is no good on him and his creativity.

2. Release all the vault material and unreleased music fans want to hear. Release on DVD all the tours and concerts that have been filmed over the years.

3. Make a new record. Call up Susan Rogers or Femi or someone like that to help

4. Call up Sheila E, Brown Mark, Matt Fink, Wendy and Lisa, etc when it is time to tour

You'd have the man change his belief system? That's deep.

I think Prince should do whatever he wants. lol

But what would I like to see?

Honestly, I'd like him to get over himself with the entire Internet-is-bad because my music is worth so-and-so deal. People have been shelling out good money for his useless websites, so what more could he want?

Just follow your muse, record and release stuff in a format that everyone can reach. Stop attacking youtube, and he should see his reach broaden again. There is no excuse for someone of Prince's calibur of musicianship having dollar CDs onsale at Target lol.

Seriously, Prince's vault and music is like Noah's ark. Build it and they shall come.

I was going to say: "Ignore people trying to decide what he should do, and live his life the way he wants."

1) Remaster/upgrade his catalog...at least every album from 'For You' to 'Lovesexy'.Fill each disc up with bonus tracks, outtakes and add rare photos and commentary in the liner notes.

...release a career spanning anthology in the vein of the Beatles video/CD set

...accept that designing album covers and selecting singles aren't two of his stronger talents

That would be truly amazing, and it doesn't have to be movie music, I'd love to hear songs like the Love We Make, Adore, Pink Cashmere with string orchestra to it LIVE! Oh and imagine how wonderful it would be if he hired an actual flautist for Power Fantastic live!!

But I agree he should do whatever he wants, he's already given us a lot cloud9
