Copying of and profiting off of his image?
You know he can't stand that.

Damn, some of you folks really think Prince is just the lowest, don't you?

I think he'd find it more funny than anything. I think he only has an issue with things if people are getting paid from them - and Troy made it clear that he's not selling the dolls.

He sues people taking his picture.
He let's his 'bodyguards' abuse peopel for that.
Now someone makes (invests siginificantly more effort) dolls that look quite a bit like him.
So one has to make it very very VERY clear that these are not for sale at all and never will be for sure.

Am I the only one here who thinks Prince will get very mad if he saw these dolls? I mean didn't he get sue-happy over tattoos of his likeness - imagine what he'd say about this - especially if they go on sale ... He'd expect his share of the cut (all 100% of it)

Nope. lol

They're awesome, but he insanely doesn't appreciate cool stuff like this. That's why I wonder why there are still people who even care to create art with his likeness.

It's all about time and place and context, 'genius'. Context.

Honestly most people would be pissed if, after a long flight in their private time, a stranger ambushed them and got in their face with a camera.

Prince gets pissy about that and somehow he's suddenly a monster? rolleyes

Let's see how friendly you'd be in a situation like that.

Someone making dolls that look like him I doubt he'd be huffy over. If you listen to his work, dude DOES clearly have a sense of humor, so wtf? As long as no one's trying to make money off of him and his name, and it isn't some kinda weird worship-thing (which it clearly isn't; Troy's head seems like it's screwed on pretty straight to me), I doubt he gives a shit. In fact I'd actually be more surprised if he didn't get a kick out of the dolls.

Private time?
Most cases deal with public streets.
And he is a monster, see the court cases history w.r.t. other issues ((C) etc).
No money to be made from my face. I don't visit Walmart.

Yeah, any time he's not working is his private time. And just like in your private time when you're walking down the street or through the airport minding your own business and don't want a total stranger running up and pointing a camera in your face, he deserves the same consideration, public street or no. Just because technically it might be legal doesn't make the shit okay.

And it's weird to me that you're actually sitting there trying to justify this shit with "Well I'm not famous". Really that has nothing to do with it. It's about people respecting other people's personal boundaries and private time and private space, period. And you can bullshit all you like but you know good and damn well that if someone did that to you, you'd be trying to knock them out.

And in situations where it involves his work and not being properly compensated for it, yeah he's well within his rights to get pissy and take people to court for it. Just like you'd bitch if you went to work and then didn't get a paycheck at the end of the week.

Monstrous, my ass - what the fuck are you smoking?

You are confusing ethics and law. Or aren't you?

I am following the law, or at least trying to follow the US version.

And it's weird to me that you're actually sitting there trying to justify this shit with "Well I'm not famous". Really that has nothing to do with it.

It attracts stuff and comes with the job.

Ask Justin Bieber.

It's about people respecting other people's personal boundaries and private time and private space, period.

If respect was built into all people then we'd have less problems. (war, fianncial crisis, Israel, etc)

And you can bullshit all you like but you know good and damn well that if someone did that to you, you'd be trying to knock them out.

Ha, respect!? You are taking the judging into your own hands. Can't do that!

Follow the law.

And in situations where it involves his work and not being properly compensated for it, yeah he's well within his rights to get pissy and take people to court for it. Just like you'd bitch if you went to work and then didn't get a paycheck at the end of the week.

I meant his behaviour w.r.t. bodyguards and such.

Not his creative output.

Monstrous, my ass - what the fuck are you smoking?

I never ever smoked.

You are confusing ethics and law.

You are taking the law into your own hands in your example.

You are not acknowledging that fame has its downsides.

You are not acknowledging that disrespect is human.

Respect is civil.

No, because I'm not the one who tried to use the argument 'it's a public street' and thus, legal in the first place. YOU did that shit. To which I replied that there's plenty of things that are, technically, legal that if you're a decent person, you won't do anyway because it's a matter of respect.

Just because it's technically legal to film someone on a 'public street', and just because someone is in a highly visible field of work, doesn't make it okay to ambush them in their downtime and photograph them even though from a strictly legal standpoint you won't be jailed for it. And that weird sense of entitlement where celebs are concerned, I noticed is a uniquely American and European phenomenon; that 'It comes with the territory of fame' shit doesn't fly over in places like Japan.

And again, I wasn't the one arguing about legalities in the first place so pointing out to me that decking someone for sticking a camera in your face will get you arrested, doesn't have anything to do with me. Like I said - you can sit here and try to rationalize and justify the inexcusable toward others all you want, but if it were you, I feel pretty certain you'd feel a certain degree of outrage and your reaction would be far from "Oh well it's a public street so go right ahead stranger and put your lens in my face!".

And I haven't heard anything about any legal issues between him and bodyguards other than them being sued for incidents stemming from trying to stop people from photographing him during his private time. And I already answered that - fuck no I don't feel compassion towards or feel that someone deserves monetary compensation for getting their cameras and shit busted up when they stuck it in a total stranger's face without their permission. And I definitely don't consider someone reacting like that when they're put in that position as monstrous so much as personal self-defense. Shit, you stick a camera in my face and your shit's gonna get broken too, I don't care how 'legal' it is.

And no shit, fame has downsides. That doesn't mean they're entitled to just take the abuse with a smile and have no personal rights or rights to dignity, safety and privacy like the rest of humanity. And no shit, disrespect is human. That doesn't make it okay either.

And yeah, you're too slippery to be high - you sound more like a sleazy lawyer at this point than anything else. Or one of the dumbfucks who got his camera broken, in which case...

*points at you and laughs*

In the words of Celia in The Color Purple, I would tell Prince, "Until you do right by me, everything you even think about gonna fail!" He can read it and weep.
