Prince and his Ohio Players influence

Was Prince influenced by the Ohio Players when developing the cover concepts for Madhouse? I always thought so....just less skin. But it goes a little further than that. The similarities are startling between the Time's first three albums and the Ohio Players Skin Tight, Fire and Honey

1. Six long jam inspired songs
2. Anthemic one-word song titles
3. Space for instrumental solos
4. Redefining how the genre is supposed to sound

But in all the years following Prince never really heard or read where he cited them as a influence. Just always heard the audio boots of him jamming on "Skin Tight". But he is a "funk" fan....so I'm sure he probably liked waay more artists and bands that we are really aware of. Guess we'll just have to wait for the autobiography!

And he played Love Rollercoaster on the Aladdin DVD.

Is Free the same song as "I Wanna Be Free" which gets a mention in the ONA booklet?
