Get It On by Lady Shelly samples 1999, but I can't find it on Youtube, just a remix. I think she was a Canadian artist, it's a dance song from about 1996.

When Doves Cry was sampled/remade for Romeo and Juliet, and I had to keep myself from punching an ex friend who called it the 'Romeo and Juliet song' when the original was playing in public.

I thought that was The Grunt from Fred Wesley and the J.B.'s.

Looks like Swizz Beatz and Kanye decided to take a little piece from the man using When We're Dancing Close and Slow...sad part is, I don't think he got his proper credit.

Sample appears in Kanye & Jay-Z's song around :31 and it's taken from 3:41 in Prince's.

Well, Prince is credited as writer and performer, so he certainly got a fair few bucks out of it.

No one really had a say before 1993. The ironic thing about Prince's statement is the earliest use I can think of was "Irresistible B****" on LL Cool J's "Dangerous" (1985), haha.
