Prince - Behind The Symbol.. ? really - doesn't sound good to me:

I haven't seen this, could it be just some hype or what??

I don't know if I really need, have to see this.....?

It's a very long time since I just had to watch things like a documentary about Prince.

I remember one from 1989 - Prince: A Musical Portrait w interviews from Eric Clapton, George Clinton, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones and even some more.

On the tape was also an alternate take of the Partyman music video, I really enjoyed this tape.

Those were the days to be a fan of Prince. wink

Nothing makes an organization seem credible like nominating a celebrity for an award for an infomercial aired on a cable channel that almost nobody can watch.

Actually it wasn't a documentary. It was apparently a behind-the-scenes special, to promote the LA 21 night stand shows at the LA Forum last year. It was actually a 1 hour presentation - first half-hour of fans/celebs/giving testimonies about their Prince concert experiences, including snippet nterviews with some of the band members of the NPG, commenting on the concerts and their experience working with Prince. The second half-hour, was about a 20-25 minute clip of Prince and the NPG singing/performing "Cool" and I believe there was another song. If I recall, not sure, the clip of that performance was from the North Carolina leg of the W2A tour.

^ Ok, thanks 2elijah.. you are talking about this "Prince: Behind The Symbol",

Ok I was just confused for a second, thought you were talking about "A Musical Portrait" haha..

thanks for telling what it's about....

like you probably know, I was talking about "A Musical Portrait" from 1989, about 15/20 minutes documentary/ behind the scenes.

Interviews with Eric Clapton, G. Clinton, Miles Davis, Q. Jones and more.

Clips from a Lovesexy aftershow in Camden London 1988,

plus rehearsal-clips from some studio, working w Mavis Staples and also the NPG,

Prince is playing a black bass along to his Partyman hit,

also clips from some US stadium, playing "The Ladder" as the last song.

^ Sorry if this is a bit confusing.. I did not intend to hijack the thread....

"Behind The Symbol" vs "A Musical Portrait"....

I am only mentioning "A Musical Portrait" because I feel it is so good.

Not sure why prince was nominated outside of
Perhaps trying to ensure him bring there. He was the subject of the documentary not the director writer etc

Correct. I don't know who these people at Drfunkyberry drunkenberry or whatever are, but their info is very misleading. If the Prince documentary wins, unless he was a producer, Price will not receive the award. And Chaka did not receive 4 nominations. She has never appeared on Oprah's Masterclass nor did she perform at Black Girls Rock or the 2011 BET Awards and she did not serve as producer on any of them. Again, as far as the UNCF Tribute To Chaka Khan, unless she served as a producer, she will not receive the award.

The message does come across unclear. I think orger sosgemini is right. It's probably the people at the Africa Channel who put that program together, who may be the ones nominated for the award. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, saw some clips and it is mainly people right after seeing him live wetting their pants with praise. It could have had more substance. I'm watching a great documentary on Fishbone 'Everyday Sunshine'. It's a great history of the band with interviews from band members and other artists, with a critical view on society and the industry, narrated by none other than Laurence Fishburne. Way better than Behind The Symbol.
