Ok..sitwdnc is one of my top ten Prince jams. While I thought it was cool he wanted to cover it, I did'nt really like the finished result. One of things I love about the original is the chord movements (especially on the "must be something in the water you drink" part. This version is a loop with no chord changes sad I also agree with funk munki, the vocal is a little monotone

I hesitated to even click on that because "Something in the Water" is literally my favorite Prince song. Period. Has been for years. So I'm funny about it.

And...like I expected, I didn't like it but it wasn't atrocious. The speeding up the tempo thing was random and made it sound more like "The Belle of St Mark", which is a song I actually like, so that helped.

But, still. People should stay far away from my "Something in the Water".

Seriously.

Don't do it.

I just discovered Prince's demo version and I have been playing it non-stop because i've fallen so in love with it. So yes I was afraid to click on this but this guy's version is not that bad. He has vocals down right, so I give it a pass.

It's not bad but he makes it look more simple to set up than it probably is. All it looks like is " push button, music starts, start singing ". If he had a full keyboard that he played while singing he'd get more credit.

Thanx for pointing that out.

Glad some of you like it.

Sorry for those who don't.

No harm intended.

Sometimes i think of Big Chick's qoute in the Purple Rain Tourbook.

Heard it on the Belgian radio today.

Not bad, but far from impressed. Sounds like someone who just bought a keyboard and covered a song on it.

It's far from atrocious, but it is a brilliant song and he's not trying anything adventerious with it.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Now this one might be a bit troublesome, so let's stick to directions: look up thedallasmusicmansion's tumblr, there's a post where Stijn covers http://princevault.com/in...le_Without .

I like it. My head is bobbing, my foot is tapping. I'm happy.

He's no Prince, but I like what's doing.

The challenge for covering a song like "Something in the Water (Does not Compute)" is that it is one of those quirky Prince songs in which Prince has embedded or hidden the soulful/gospel angst beneath a computerized faux new wave sound, showing that very few people can create or articulate emotional urgency like Prince, no matter the genre. With that said, Stign does two things well. One, he increases the tempo so that now his cover gives me something different, which is what a cover is supposed to do. But, secondly, even though he increases the tempo, his vocal delivery captures the urgency of the song. So, he has managed to give us something new while maintaining the essence of the song, which is the angst/urgency. I'll give it a B+/A-.

On another note, however, Stijn's beat and vocal delivery of "17 Days" shows that he doesn't realize just how dark this song really is. It seems that he's trying to make it a party song when the song is a lament. Additionally, in this case, his voice just doesn't seem to have the emotional depth--possibly due to a lack of understanding the song--to carry the weight of the song. I'll give it a F-. (Is there anything lower I can give it?)

not feelin it at all, he took all the funk out of both tracks, made some whitey euro vibe out of it.

Inderdaad gewoon blijven doen. Erg goed. Heb dit linkje al meerdere keren op FB gezet, telkens met enthousiaste reacties.

Maar ook de 'gewone' Stijn is geweldig, hoor. Wanneer kom je weer naar Amsterdam?
