Aside from my feeling that "U're Gonna C Me" and "Here" are two of the man's best songs in forever, the rest of the album is really aggressively bad. Gonna go with nay, myself.

I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

I love Chocolate Box. The guitar is great on that track.

I need to listen to this album, not listened to it for a while.

Nay. I prefer 20ten over this.

Has a few great songs though. (Dance 4 Me, Here, Chocolate Box)

There's many albums I prefer but apart from Chocolate Box it's a yay from me. Love No More Candy, Old School Company, Dance 4 Me and Valentina. Here and better with time are ok. Never B Another I don't skip but don't love. Lotus blows it away but on the whole it's pretty good.

RIP sad

I very much agree. They strike me as similar albums but in most aspects 20Ten is superior.

I really do not like the fact that three of the middle four tracks on MPLSoUND are ballads, it kind of drags the album down a bit for me. I do like a few of the songs but overall I would rate MPLSoUND as his weakest album circa 2004-present.

I quite like it, though not as much as Lotus. Dance 4 Me, U're Gonna C Me, Here, Better with Time, and No More Candy 4 U are all excellent tracks. The first two songs do give it a bit of a Controversy vibe, like he was going for, although they are the two weakest tracks on there. After that, I hear more of a mid 80s solo Prince vibe until No More Candy brings us back to Controversy.

Not bad on the whole. Really his recent stuff grows on you with just a little time.

I was thinking about Chocolate Box the other day. If this is the first song to introduce a non Prince fan to his music, he/she will hate Prince for life. It's like a nightmare Hanna-Barbera cartoon theme song from the late 70's.

biggrin : Dance 4 Me, Here

smile: Another Like Me, U're Gonna C Me, Ol' Skool Company

neutral : Chocolate Box, Valentina

ill : Better With Time, No More Candy 4 U

I don't hate any of Prince's albums, but this one's pretty low on the list.

Edit: My opinions on 'Another Like Me' and 'Chocolate Box' have changed.

hmm.. I actually know someone who said they became a fan after hearing that song. I'm not shitting. I also know someone who became a fan after hearing "Laydown" on Lopez Tonight ill Just shows that we all have diffferent tastes, and every new Prince album has won him some new fans.

Hmm. Maybe it was too broad of a blanket statement on my part. But I still cant see anyone but maybe very young children or mentally handicapped adults wanting to ever listen to that song.

Im sure every new album has a few new fans created. To be honest, that Laydown performance on Lopez is a good performance. Laydown is not a bad track at all.

We must be unbiased though, and unfortunately, Prince has lost alot of fans over more recent years, certainly alot more than he has gained. Sure, every now and again, Prince shows us that he has massive talent, The Rainbow Children as a concept album was brilliant. Musicology as a commercial album was great. But in between such examples of greatness, he does give us alot of second rate material. To be honest, MPLS and 20Ten are both fairly poor examples of the Prince catalogue.

For me, 'Laydown' is one of the absolute worst Prince songs. I do agree that 'MPLSound' and '20Ten' are weak, but I think the reason he's losing fans has more to do with his personality, dumb public statements and poor business decisions than the music.

I don't expect the 80s fans to like the new music, as his new music sounds very, very different than the 'classic' stuff, but I do believe he'd have a pretty big new audience if his recent music was promoted better. Still, a lot of teenagers have joined this site recently, and many of them say they became fans because of the newer music.

Point is, there's more fans of his new music than some people think; it's just that his new music doesn't appeal to people who loved him for the 80s stuff, but Lotusflow3r did sell 500,000 in the US, so it's safe to say it's won him a good bit of new fans. NPGMC stuff & "N.E.W.S." aside, I don't think Prince has ever sold less than 500,000 worldwide (I could be wrong).

For me, it's a Meh. I like some and totally dislike others. Don't love any. But every now and then, I'm in the mood to listen to U're Gonna C Me or Valentina or Better With Time. Heck, sometimes I even enjoy Q-Tip's rap on Chocolate Box. So I guess I am leaning towrad Yay, but I can't get fully behind it because I don't just love any one song on that album.

Nothing wrong that I can see, but I admire your passion on the album's behalf!

2 great songs < 7 terrible songs

I enjoy the 2 great ones, but simply can't salvage the rest of the album, which earns it a nay grade overall.

It's a horrible album. You know it's a horrible album when the best songs on the entire album are the two ballads.

In my opinion it has some of the worst songs of all time, but also has two great songs (Better with Time & No More Candy 4 U)

- and one of his best songs ever: Ol' Skool Company

That's one of his worst ever. That one and "Laydown". Horrible attempts at today's mainstream sound which is shit hop.

Well.... confused

Let me just say it should be clear 'LotusFlow3r' is the strongest album released in the 3CD set. However I do love: Here, Ol' Skool Company, and Dance 4 Me. Dance 4 Me has the be the strongest track on MPLSound! It's just funky and so good. 'Here' is one of his best ballads in recent years for me. I also dig 'Valentina' for some strange reason. Haha

Everything else is pretty poor, I'm afraid.

The most awful song he has done is '(There'll Never Be) Another Like Me' It just sucks SO BAD! The Lyrics and whole flow is horrible, it's a brother to 'Life O' The Party'. JUST BAD!

'Chocolate Box' is not as good either. I love the way the guitar is featured there though, but Q-Tip is buried underneath the whole song. As with many Prince duets, the other singer is no where to be found. Haha. The lyrics are pretty bad too, the music video is pointless. lol

'U're Gonna C Me' is much better on 'One Nite Alone' I like it when it's simply the piano, the album version is not as good. It's not horrible, but it just sounds over produced. His vocals are pretty stellar though.

'Better With Time and No More Candy 4 U'...Just fails in my book. They both sound as an attempt to bring something new..But they are FILLER FILLER FILLER! lol

So in summary of all of this...I guess it's a NAY as a whole. lol

If only he just released 'Lotusflow3r' and added the good songs on MPLSound on perhaps 20Ten? lol Who knows it depends..lol

I still dig 4 songs on it, so it's worth the listen for those songs..lol

It's Button Therapy, Baby!
