Remove all of the non-Prince vocal songs except Melody cool, and you have a solid album.

It's a brilliant album and when you programme your stereo or mp3 player to play just the Prince songs, you realize that was Prince's last piece of brilliant music before he got to The Rainbow Children.

It's cool thathe put Mavis, George and the others on there but I wish it was just a solo prince album. It contains my three most favourite Prince tracks: Joy in Repitition, The Question of U and Theives In The Temple.

Yep, these are SLAMMING! headbang

yeahthat I can't stand the non-Prince input. But Melody Cool is awesome!

The album is pretty solid, I love the cover art and the weird title. "Graffiti Bridge" seems like it came out of a dream. lol

I love the title track, surely many people think it's cheesy, but I love the Broadway spectrum of the whole thing. It's a album that is somewhat kicked under the bus because of the movie. I seen the movie for the first time on the last day of year 2011. Haha..It summarized the year perfectly for me.

That is: Weird, Trying to come up with meaning but ultimately failing to really come with purpose, colorful, love everywhere, and death of the one who was like an angel.

NEVERTHELESS!

GET it! lol

Joy in Repitition/Question of U....two P masterpieces exist on this album, that is reason enough to own it.

Other faves of mine are: Elephants&flowers, Still would stand all time & We can Funk

Romeoblu

Yay.

I can't see how it could be else. It contains a number of classics.

I also enjoy the other songs, and I love Melody Cool.

Why does that song get bashed?

In fact release it, love machine and melody cool are 3 great tracks. I also enjoy Shake.

And I love the title song. I can hear why some dismiss it, but I love it, I often think I shouldn't like this but it has an uplifting effect on me.

I'm thinking of getting this album. I have a friend who is a huge Prince fan, who said this album is wack and he was very dissapointed in it when it came out. What do you guys think? I guess this album is considered to be the beginning of the end for the Purple one but I like Thieves in the Temple. Is it worth checking out?

Hell fucking yes, it is.

But honestly most of the tracks that aren't Prince, are skipworthy.

Barring those though, I think it's actually among some of his best work. I can't say enough good things about "Joy in Repetition", "Question of U" and "Elephants and Flowers"...

That's pretty much what I did and it trule worked! Ikept the song with Mavis Staples though. I got it narrowed down to 10 songs and I like it that way. The song with Tevin Campbell really had to go and a few others. The Prince jams are rocking!

Every Prince album is worth hearing. You never know what you'll like and others' opinions shouldn't keep you from listening to something, but I'm guessing somebody else has already said that.

My take:

biggrin : The Question Of U, Thieves In The Temple, Still Would Stand All Time

smile : Joy In Repetition

neutral : New Power Generation, Graffiti Bridge, Round and Round [Tevin Campbell]

sad : (Everything Else)

It's in my bottom 5 Prince albums. I do not like it much.

Co sign - Release It is the bomb!

I would consider Joy In Repetition and The Question of U to be true classics.

Thieves In The Temple is also excellent.

Elephants & Flowers, Still Would Stand All Time, New Power Generation and We Can Funk

are all very good tracks (in my opinion).

The rest of the album I can take or leave. Worst track for me? Easily Graffiti Bridge.

faint No one really digs the Title track but it's awesome! Haha, I love the united harmonies and the way the guitar BREAKS through! It's one of the best songs on the album for me. The worst track for me would have to be 'Shake' and 'We Can Funk (Duo)'! I LOVE 'WE CAN FUNK' when Prince recorded it himself in 83' I believe? The one on 'Graffiti Bridge' just SUCKS! Too many details, I like it RAW and all over the place. The one on the album is too skilled. lol

SoulAlive

There are some good moments on this album, but it's not a very consistent album.I think 'Batman' was a much stronger, focused soundtrack album.

"Can't Stop This Feeling I Got","We Can Funk" and "Thieves In The Temple" are the highlights.

"Release It","New Power Generation" and "The Latest Fashion" are the worst tracks.

Everything else is mostly mediocre....not terrible, but not outstanding either.

The man's last truly fantastic album.

If you ignore the guest tracks and focus strictly on the Prince tracks, it's a creative, quirky and fun trip. And I love the whimsical atomsphere that the album revels in - very cool.

So yes, I say "Yay!"

I think the 'Prince' tracks are the best, and these 'mostly' are the pre-1989 songs
