Of course he was...the verse he chose was the 'All Along the Watchtower, Princes kept the view'.

Subtle, he's not.

first time that it was actually sung in tune though....jimmy 2! That cat could not sing either...

Disagree. The John Wesley Harding version of 'Watchtower' is lovely

I admit that Dylan is a monument in music history and people should at least respect that. just like Prince fans want their idol 2 get the respect he deserves..even from those who don´t like his music..

I don´t love Dylan, Clapton ,Neil Young... well maybe just a few songs,

I prefer Stevie Wonder and others but that doesn´t mean I will put Dylan down...I just can´t listen 2 his music and his voice really isn´t that great wink a lot of critics have said this through the years...with respect wink

With one exception, no one is putting Dylan down. We're just stating the obvious ... he can't sing.

We're not doubting his iconic status or his song writing abilities. His voice just sounds like ... well.. shit.

I love the music from both of my Minnesota brothers-- Dylan and Prince. That said, I know that Dylan can't sing for shit and never really could but it works for his music. His lyrics are brilliant and vocal acrobatics would only get in the way. What he lacks in singing ability he makes up for with phrasing and, usually, delivery. I like how raw some of his songs sound.

You really can't compare the two. Prince is perhaps the greatest musician/performer of our time and Dylan the greatest lyricist. A better comparison with Prince is Stevie and I don't think most people want to go there. I'm not sure who to compare with Dylan-- perhaps the greatest compliment you can pay to somebody-- but maybe Ani Difranco (still a great compliment). People with Dylan's talent typically write books, or as mentioned, poetry.

No one is comparing Dylan to Prince in this thread. A statement was made that Dylan was an acomplished singer to which I responded with laughter. There has been dialogue on the topic of D's voice. All I've made fun of here is D's voice, let me emphasize that I've made fun of nothing else. In my opinion there's nothing else about D to poke fun at. I love Janet Jackson and I'll be the first to say the same thing about her. I've seen or heard her live and when she's not lipsyncing, she can't sing for shit either. lol

You didn't but others did. Dylan came up because somebody mentioned he was probably worth more than Prince. Then somebody started talking about Prince's voice in response to the talk about Dylan's.

I should have worded my response "One really can't compare the two..." and I was using your quote only because it had Paisley's in it. My response wasn't to anybody in particular so I should have just made a general reply instead of a reply to the quote. shrug

This thread brings to mind Per Nilsen's biography of Prince. He recounts the story of how, around 1980-1981, Bob Dylan requested to meet Prince after one of his shows, Prince being the hot new musician from Minnesota and all. Prince was tired so he turned down Dylan's request.
