Antwerp 2002 soundcheck finally out in the open!

I waited 10 years and finally it appears, unexpected:

The boot of the legendary Antwerp Soundcheck.

So it was recorded. Thank u for this!

It is as brilliant as it was in my memory.

Freaky, jazzy, funky, some rock.

Reliving it all over again. Tears in my eyes

Play it loud and u will be amazed by the quality.

THANKS!

Hi Art,

Thanks for this post. I will try to find it on the www! I was there too (in the fanclub area) and it was a very good show, sound check AND main show. One of my best Prince memories!

I'm surprised this has not been mentioned until now as it's been doing the rounds since before Christmas.

The bulk of the main show is from a free release, as per Eye, but the soundcheck is nice to have.

I wonder why it received that legendary status? It must be because it has remained unheard till now, because as far as musically, it's pretty standard fare. Sure it's nice and long, almost concert length, and the quality is good, and it's good to have it after all these years, but musically it's a bit of a disappointment. Too many tracks are repeated, sure it has Bambi, Whole Lotta Love and Empty Room, but we already had those on other ONA releases, and in soundboard.

However, good to have at last, but not really the holy grail of ONA soundchecks that was expected.

Imo.

@thedigitalgardener:
Well i guess u r more or less right. It may not be the holy grail, but then...
I was there and remember it being a really relaxed and musically interesting public rehearsal. The first time they rehearse the take five tune, which appears in full glory a little later in the Vega-after.there's really some nice free jazzy funk jamming. And Eric Leeds was there. Listening to it now, after all these years, is a mixture of enthousiasm about the fact that it is out in the open and true musical pleasure. Maybe no holy grail, but it comes rather close...!

It's cool that you have audio of the soundcheck you were actually at.

For that reason it should be special to you.
