I love the released version and I think it's somehow more "powerful", but I think that, if released at the time, the March 1994 configuration woulda rocked (or the May 1994 one, but I think Interactive really suffers from its NPG Operator "interruption" being taken away. Now if the long version have had it it woulda been just perfect!)! It would have been somehow smoother, more R&B oriented, and the inclusion of DOW, Acknowledge Me and Ripopgodazippa was worth the ride by itself!

So in the end I don't know, I guess the released version is somehow better, but still I'd love 2 have a perfectly masted boot of the March 1994 configuration! (Yeah I know, I can do it myself since all the tracks have been released, but the sound volume and quality of the tracks would be different and I don't have the skills to work the sound of them to "remaster" them all at a similar level).

I always put Interactive on any comps I do, but it does clash with the similar Endorphinmachine - which belongs on Come with Space, so it makes room for Interactive.

Acknowledge Me and DOW should be on there. Friggin' We March gets a slot? FUCK THAT! lol

this one! I can't believe that he removed great songs like "Days Of Wild" and "Ripopgodazippa" from the album...replacing them with weaker stuff like "P Control" and "We March" disbelief

  2. Interactive (longer version)

This thread takes me right back to 1994,when there was so much uncertainty surrounding this album. We didn't know if it would ever get released.I remember Paisley Park even distributed flyers, asking fans to petition Warners to release it lol It was a weird, yet fun time.

I remember a friend making me a cassette of 'The Gold Album' (as it was callled back then). This was in late 1994 or early 95.He took all of the circulating tracks and compiled them.A few tracks were very low-quality...obviously from a nightclub or one of Prince's parties at Paisley Park."I Hate U" began with the second part (the courtroom segment) and a guy can be heard saying to a friend "This sounds like Joy In Repetition, right?" lol "P.Control" was also from a nightclub airing. You can hear the ladies in the crowd singing along to the chorus, totally off-key...lol....

I think I'll pull out that cassette and listen to it again...for old times sake lol

I kind of like it the way it is, having something like Interactive replace those stupid NPG operator segues would have been sweet though.

There was also this thing, which utilized many Gold tracks.....nifty.

This is from scififilmnerds list of unreleased configurations.

prince: The Versace Experience (Prelude 2 Gold) cassette (8 July 1995)
1. P. Control (Club Mix) (Edit) (3:04)*
2. Shhh! (Edit) (3:54)*

Agreed. We March is the weakest song on the album by a mile.

Acknowledge Me still sounds hot, 18 years later...

I personally think that P. Control is really THE shit, this track is one of my favorites ever, so yeah, I'd miss it and I think prince relized it was a major composition of his, and that it HAD 2 b included. I'm quite surprised to read that someone doesn't like it eek but hey, different folks different strokes.

On the other hand I coulda done without We March, now I remember loving the 1994 live version in Berlin (despite the lame quality of the boot), and I wonder how I'd like the original recording, if it sounds like the live cut.

I dig the NPG Operator segues, for me they are totally part of the whole concept and totally necessary.

Acknowledge Me could definitely have been a single, and a succesful one, cuz as said above it was bloody relevant in 1994, just as much as Love Sign (which, BTW, would have fit perfectly on TGE).

I never really was able to imagine either Interactive or Endorphinmachine fitting on Come, but it's possible that it's just out of habit. For me they are and always were Gold tracks.

I just listened to TGE and the wonderful remastering of the Beautiful Experience video by 4dafunk, and it reminded me of how fresh, challenging and innovative these songs sounded at the time! These were, indeed, the days of wild! lol

I love P Control, "Good morning ladies, Gentlemen, boys & motherfuckin girls, this is your new captain..." - Great beginning to a very funky album!!

therefor, I would just change the released version,

>>> to take off We March and then include Acknowledge Me & Days Of Wild - 2 songs I just love so much!!.

  1. P. Control (5:59)
  2. NPG Operator (0:10)
  3. Endorphinmachine (4:06)
  4. Shhh (7:16)
  5. Days Of Wild (Studio version) (??) 1
  6. NPG Operator (0:16)
  7. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (Orig. version) (4:42)
  8. Dolphin (4:59)
  9. NPG Operator (0:18)
  10. Now (4:30)
  11. Acknowledge Me (??)
  12. NPG Operator (0:31)
  13. 319 (3:05)
  14. NPG Operator (0:10)
  15. Shy (5:04)
  16. Billy Jack Bitch (5:32) 2
  17. Hate U (5:54)
  18. NPG Operator (0:44)
  19. Gold (7:23)

- just wow - worship

Edit: I would also change TMBGITW to the "original version"

- the best version = the version used in the music video.

I agree with this. I just want to hear all of his songs - I'm capable of making playlists with the songs I like best.

I never knew that songs from Chaos and Disorder were inteded for TGE, though it makes sense. C&D is maybe my favorite album, so I love this version:

Summer, 1994 configuration

  1. Chaos And Disorder
  2. Listen 2 The Rhythm
  3. Now
  4. Right The Wrong
  5. Acknowledge Me
  6. Ripopgodazippa
  7. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
  8. 319
  9. Shy
  10. Billy Jack Bitch
  11. Hate U
  12. Gold

I think he made the right descision for the track listing, except that I like "Days Of Wild" (though the live version from CB is better than the bootleg versions) and "Love Sign", which I'm surprised was never considered for this album.

I don't know about opening track, but I would've thought for sure it was considered for the album. It fits in perfectly.

btw, why so much hate for "We March"; and why so little hate for "Now" and "Billy Jack Bitch" question

My TGE Playlist currently looks like this:

  1. P. Control
  2. Endorphinmachine
  3. Love Sign
  4. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
  5. Dolphin
  6. Days Of Wild
  7. 319
  8. Hide The Bone
  9. Da Bang
  10. Shy
  11. I Hate U
  12. Gold

Not sure if 'Da Bang' was from the TGE era, either, but it works fine for me. The sequencing could be changed to put 'Days Of Wild', 'Hide The Bone' and 'Da Bang' earlier in the album, but this way works fine for me.

Recording dates are unknown, but it might have been b4 the final, 1995, release of TGE.

It was considered for the album, at one point. I don't believe it was ever put into any configurations, though.

At one point, "Acknowledge Me" was planned as the LEAD single (unless you count MBGITW as the lead-off). A single edit was even made of it, and an accompanying video. It definitely should have been released to radio, at the very least.

I like the March 94 version...but really like PControl, Endorphinmachine and Shhh...so also really llike the released version. My homemade version is the released version with Acknowledge Me, Interactive, and DOW, and most of the operator segues taken out. I actually am one of the few that likes We March, so need to leave that on there.

I was totally fading as a fan before someone gave me a cassette in late 94 for most of the Gold songs...of course horrible quality...but it got me back in the mix FAST. I wish Prince was into it more when it was finally released as it should've been a monster. But understand that by the time it was released, as we all know, Prince had completely moved on by that point.

Any configuration would have been great, really, but nothing beats the released version. It's perfect, it's huge, it's powerful, it's pure O(->. The best album of all times, in my opinion.
