For You is a Freakin Masterpiece Okay so I'm listening to For You again after having to buy it again and this cd/album is a masterpiece! From the title song which is just beautiful, Baby is a great ballad deserving to sit beside all of Prince's ballads, Soft and Wet and I'm Yours are genius! I love this cd! The music alone makes it worthy of being called a masterpiece Opinions?

My biggest problem with it is that it sounds a million years old. It could really use a remaster or something.
I never really liked 'Soft and Wet' or 'So Blue'; but 'Just As Long As We're Together', 'Baby' and 'Im Yours' are favorites.

The vinyl album is mixed and mastered perfectly. I never listened to the CD, which probably sounds terrible, like every Prince CD before 1991, when technology (AD/DA conversion) finally caught up with the CD format... "He's a musician's musician..."

I own it on vinyl, but my record and player are both in poor condition, so I wouldn't know. I heard that all of Prince's albums sound better on vinyl, but none of my Prince vinyls are in good condition. [Edited 1/10/12 12:34pm]

i think i like this album better than Prince. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

not a bad first effort though Okay, but I've rarely seen an artist do just about everything on their first album-sing,produce,play instruments, etc. That's enough for me

The vocal layering on For You It's a beautiful song, and really shows off his vocal skills. Soft And Wet has that formula that I love, falsetto over those beats

I love how 'For You' is technically the first song of his career.

I love it. FY is one of his few albums that is really cohesive from start to finish.

I love Just As Long As We're Together. And I think the melody to Crazy You is beautiful...but way too short. I wish we had the longer version in pristine sound quality. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

What else besides the music would make it worthy of being called a masterpiece?

Disagree, but I like it. It's not an album I could listen to on any given day.

Yeah - and did you notice how they played it at the end of the BBC4 documentary - making exactly the same point. Genius. Shut up already, damn.

"For You" was his first WB song and, excluding The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale, "Had U" was his last new WB song. Symmetry.
