Strange But True appreciation Does this song get any love? I absolutely dig it. Even with the "understand/stand under" nonsense--it's awesome. I love the groove, the vocals, the message. It's fun to work out to, too.

Is this from Lovesexy? | |

The entire 'Rave' album gets very little love around here. The song is nothing special, but I like it. It was removed from 'Rave In2', so apparently even Prince didn't think very highly of it.

It's cool. I like it. Hell, it's downright adventurous considering the period it came from. But I always felt like there was some final element missing from it. It doesn't completely click for me, and I don't know what it is. Something about the melody maybe.

I found this to be really bizarre, especially since he left Silly Game on there -- which by no means could be considered a centerpiece or important track for the album -- completely unchanged.

Go away LittleLord.... Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

No worries. Sorry this thread got derailed with that ugliness.
One of the things I love about the song is that it has an early '80s vibe to it. Definitely not a Lovesexy sound to my ears, but more like a 1999 one. And that is part of what makes it so killer, in my opinion.

Not a big fan of this track, but it's bearable.

Yeah, I like the song, but I find it somewhat underwhelming - not sure why, but I don't feel the need to listen to it very often, and I usually don't repeat it either. It's an interesting song, but not quite a classic or anything..

Strange But True...Let's see what you can do!
I dig this track! The lyrics are very good as well. This is a song that has so many elements, that after listening to it over and over you catch something you did not before. Every time I listen to this, I think about how Toejam? One of the guys from the 'Peace & Black Podcast' says this is their favorite Prince song EVER. Haha..It's very sneaky good! Someone else could release this and be called a genius! But seeing as it's Prince; people just ignore it and it hardly gets recognition. Strange but true!
Now let all negativity BOW! It's Button Therapy, Baby!

That flutehorn sound reminds me of George Micheal 'Hard Day' interlude or something from Faith. "Climb in my fur."

One of his trippiest songs ever, in my opinion.
Although there are positives hints in the lyrics, I find the song absolutely dark, almost Come-era like.
Love it. | |

I don't revisit it because of the album it's on, but it is one of few standouts on Rave.

This is the kind of song I buy Prince albums for. Even if I don't like the song (but I do in this case), at least he's stretching out and reaching for something. Others I'd place in this category are From the Lotus, Condition of the Heart, and All the Critics Love U in New York.
Conversely, it's 'typical' songs like Hot Wit U, On the Couch, and Get on the Boat that make me feel like I've wasted my time and money.
The difference between Prince now and Prince back in the day is that back then, these lovable 'weird' songs used to be chart-toppers.
