I agree completely. But remember that songwriting includes lyrics and music - I think Prince is great at composing music; just not one of the best lyricists.

I agree. His musical compositions were genius. His lyrics left a lot to the imagination though. I guess his stubbornness wouldn't let anyone help his lyrics shine more than it did. He can write a good song or two lyrically though.

I love Prince but when it comes to songwriting i would choose Lennon/McCartney every other day over him ... "ohYeeeeeah" said: I'm a massive Bowie fan. Even on Scary Monsters, I always skip Fame ...

This subject is really subjective. Haha
jk
Well in a way...
I wouldn't say 'OF ALL TIME'
John Lennon Stevie Wonder Joni Mitchel David Bowie Bob Dylan Kate Bush Marvin Gaye Smokey Robinson
(To Name a few of my favorites...) SO many great lyricists!
Prince manages the double meaning of words pretty well. He has a theory to many of his songs that can often be taken many ways. I think he's definitely one of the best of THIS GENERATION. Definitely better than many from the era of the '80's' who were 'NEW COMERS'.
Yet, they are many great song writers, and many have been in the game longer and have greater skill.
I just appreciate good lyrics, and so many are able to accomplish that over the years! It's Button Therapy, Baby!
