Sea of Everything Appreciation

man, this track has become THE destination track on 20ten for me. meaning its typically the reason WHY i put the cd on. one of the best ballads in recent years (Better With Time and SHOE also). Can't stop listening to it. Same thing happened with Here on MPLSound. Dude still has sublime moments and songs!

Dude's heart is overfloating with fallinluv in that ballad (and in Here as well )

I'm with you man!

Great track...

I also loved Here - although it started so well but kinda ends not so interestingly...

His boutique songs are still on point - it's his funk and rock/funk these days that lack the bite that they once had.

Oh well...

Thanks for sharing!

I love the sentiment and sincerity of this song. It has "space" to it, like "one kiss at a time" smile

"Sea of Everything" is a nice ballad, reminds me of "Ooh Baby, Baby" by Smokey Robinson.

It's almost better than Ambien.

It's a lovely song, it's potential as a live track is humungus. I can here Prince really nail this down at a small venue.... cool

Easily, by a long way, the worst track on the album. The worst on the last few albums for me really. Listened to it three times. First play of the album obviously and a second to give it a chance. Went back to it after a few months and tried it one last time but couldn't make it to the end. Really horrible.

RIP sad

Not a standout for me, but a fine song. I've come to think of 20Ten as something of a companionpiece to MPLS, both are easily my fav albums of the last decade, perhaps since Symbol.

It's okay, it has nice vocals. I think Walk In Sand is better as a ballad.

I've tried for so long to dig this song, BUT I just can't. It's one of the most skipped on '20Ten' for me. It fits perfectly there, but I think he could have gone without it, "Walk In Sand" is far more superior for me. However, I do agree with somebody here saying its reminiscent of Smokey Robinson. HE should cover this. Haha

It's exactly the kind of song that I can no longer tolerate from Prince. I simply can't stand the entire vibe of it. Even after I take into account what's good about the song, in the end, Prince has been there and done that too many times for me.

I agree 100%. Prince definitely shows off his vocals on Sea of Everything, but it falls just yea-short of being interesting. Walk In Sand is much more groovy.

Really?! I beg to differ, to me he hasn't. it isn't in the vein of the Do Me Baby's, Insatiable, Scandalous type ballads. Its a different style, (same with Walk in Sand) not quite like a Sweet Baby per se, but not the same as the "bedroom" joints either I think this difference (someone said "boutique") is refreshing and is misread as 'generic' when P is anything but that

I may have to give it another listen; I honestly can't even remember the melody. I'm glad you mentioned "Here" though. I thought I was the only one who loves that song. It doesn't try too hard (thankfully), but I love everything from the lyrics and vocals to the music.

you can't remember the melody because it doesn't have one. this song is quite an achievement in that it's almost completely tuneless.

Hey EyeJester7

(Bolded part) That would be me lol

"Sea of Everything", "Walk In Sand" and "Future Soul Song", are like the the R&B soul ballads of the mid to late 60s, sung by groups like the Delfonics, Stylistics, Black Ivory, Smokey Robinson, just to name a few.

"Walk In Sand" reminds me of "You are Everything" by the Stylistics, as well as "Walking in the Rain" by the late Barry White's female group's song 'Love Unlimited'.

From the Lotusfllower(Mplsound) album, "Better With Time" is a nice ballad as well.

Different strokes for different folks, thank goodness for that.biggrin

It's a song that's charms aren't immediate.

However th vocals are great. The only thing that brings it down for me us the clumsy lyric about the writing the best letters he's ever heard.

It was none other than you Elijah! smile I was talking about directly!

I totally agree with you! I can hear the print on his music. These ballads covered by Smokey, Black Ivory, and all of those great legends! smile I love 'Walk In Sand', I'm listening to it now..It's a JAM! smile. I love how the vocals come together when he says: "Nothing is better than to walk in sand with YOU....OUU AHH Ouuu iAhhh Ooo hhhhaaa" It's a song that fits perfectly on the album. smile I think Smokey should really 'Cover' this song. I love the tremble in his voice. He would KILL IT. All the 'poor ballads' Prince has, Smokey can make them legendary. Haha

Sea Of Everything is a nice little sentiment in that; it falls together correctly after 'Walk In Sand'. I love how his songs fall into each other perfectly. That's genius! smile

Listenable, but not great. It's fairly slow moving, and therefore boring. I like the lyrics, though.

I recall someone on the org saying the song is about Michael Jackson.
