Underwear - The Song

is this a true prince outtake? I have it downloaded and is *sounds* like prince, but I can't tell for sure. I've never seen any reference to it anywhere... it sounds like a Dirty Mind/Controversy era outtake, if it's Prince. i've listened to it a hundred times, and sometimes I feel like its him, and sometimes not... it was labeled as a Prince Outtake when I downloaded it, but I can't find any reference to it anywhere, so I'm wondering if it's by someone else. Is anyone familiar with this track?

There might actually be a song called "Underwear", but it definitely ain't by Prince.

it's a very good fake, then. There are several on KazAaa as "Prince - Underwear". If anyone gets a chance to download it, I'd be interested to hear what others think about it... maybe someone will recognize who it actually is.

I have heard it and i can almost definately say that IS Prince, its just his crazy style and humour. It has probably been taken from the vault and so thats why it isnt on previous bootlegs. I would date it around 1988 - early 90's. It sounds a bit similar to Kiss My Ass, but its much better.

It is classic Prince. It sounds so cool...its got his trademark funky scream that isnt easily faked. I have no doubt its him.
To those fanatics: you dont know all Princes songs as there are so many unreleased in the Vault that even you dont know, so dont dismiss what is one of his greatest songs before you have even heard it.

it's not prince... neither is kiss my ass. there was a joker out there that was actually going by the name of "the artist formerly known as ?" that was making "purple music" because prince wasn't making music like that anymore. he had an mp3.com site and all, filled with all kinds of 1982-1985 sounding "purple music".

Well duh - Did I really have to say "there is no song by Prince called Underwear" when the post was questioning whether this song was by Prince, on a Prince message board?!! LOL wink

thanks for the insight, ya'll. ya know, i actually enjoy the track better now. If it was Prince, it was a throwaway at best... but now that I know it's a fake, I'm impressed... pretty darn clever, not bad at all.

many of you probably havent heard Bang Bang feat. Brown Mark ( a GB outtake) but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist or is genuine, which it undoubtedly is.

I have, it's on Brown Marks Motown album from around... erm '89?

for the record 'kiss my ass' is NOT Prince, no way. Haven't heard 'underwear' though so i can't comment.

er

'Underwear' (aka 'B U're Underwear') is NOT a Prince song... neither is '69 Positions', 'R U Horny', or 'Pretty Bitch'. They are all songs by some flake called Seymour Funk who is intentionally putting this stuff out trying to get people interested in what he is doing. After hearing all these songs once through (or only partially through... I turned most of them off), I knew right away it wasn't Prince. 'Yeahh' there's that trippy voice effect that Prince has done before in the past, but these definitely aren't Prince. It's just pretty sad when someone has to emulate someone so popular just to try and entice people to listen to their stuff... I guess obviously this guy isn't a 'real musician' doing 'real music'... there is only ONE - NOTE 'ONE' IN BIG LETTERS - Prince and that is all that they'll ever be... smile

THAT'S HIM! that's the guy i was talking about! thank you tracychristopher! i don't know... seems like the guy has some kind of talent, wish he was doing something original instead of trying to emulate someone else. when i lived in minneapolis from 1988-1991 there were SO many people out there like this that made stuff that was so blatantly prince derived it was ridiculous. that was one of the reasons i left there.

I know there are songs by people like Mr.Funk that are fakes but P's voice and style is not easily imitated and i am still quite sure that its him. Why would someone bother to try to fake it when they could make it on their own. Whoever did those trax (assuming it wasnt P which i dont really believe) then how come they seem to have his creativity. Underwear is an excellent song.
Pretty Bitch is borderline i agree, and Some of Me i think maybe a fake but Kiss My Ass does sound like him especially at the end.

why are there "cover" bands? why are there "tribute" bands out there? imitation does not equal innovation! robin trower sounds a LOT like jimi hendrix, but that of course does not make him jimi hendrix. trower is an EXCELLENT guitarist (and a hendrix fanatic as well), but a mediocre songwriter--a lot of his output has been criticized as "second rate hendrix". thin lizzy's song "the boys are back in town" sounds quite springsteen to me, but that don't make it springsteen!

believe what you want, but those tracks ain't prince.

GOSH! Master Pureviolet in da place!
'Underwear' is NOT Prince, it sounds too 'Ready For The World', it's a nice little track but it sounds quite ridiculous, like many other mp3:'Some Kind Of Fool 4 U', 'She Don't Know'…

… BUT …

There is a track called 'All I wanna Do', slow tempo with 'fake?'Prince voice on it too AND an other track called 'R U Horny' with the very same harmony but faster and really Prince's voice and drum. This version is very catchy and is one of my favorite Prince 'underground-bootleg'.
What I think is that Prince had a project for an other New-Funk band or the desire to put himself into a fake New-Funk band. Prince did that game for many NPG songs and he also created Camille, Tora Tora, fake 'girlfriends' guests, Christopher (Tracy) and Morris Day's alter-ego…
---
For '69 position',it doesn't sound very princey but R&B, just like 'I'm Feelin Kinda Freaky'. If you listen with attention, theese 2 super tracks really could be taken from 'Exodus' or 'Goldnigga' from NPG. To me, it's purple by essence.
---
Real princey tracks sang by Prince are 'Fat Ass' (experimenting guitar payled in the water), 'Some Of Me', 'Freaky Ass' and 'Big Booty Mama'… The voice, guitar, the production's quality and easyness to funk yur thing prove it. By being a 1+1+1… person, Prince was able to be as rude as he would…
---
I have a question: Is 'A better Place 2 Die' CD (12 tracks) a promotional bootlegg by Paisley Park (it looks like) or a totaly illegal bootleg?
