We freaking know. Lol its a bit sad that the documentary itself was actually quite insightful and informative, and yet what some people wanna talk about is just THIS. Over and over and over and over....

i had never heard it told by those who were there.

its not nasty nor spiteful about MJ as the docu isnt.

so yes out of the whole docu thats what ichoose to talk about cos i had never actually heard peoplein th know discuss it.

its also a funny story.

Really liked this doc. I found it informative too.

There was also alot of info and footage that i had never seen before. Like when Prince holds up his four fingers in that interview instead of speaking.

Really cool to see what Lisa, Wendy and Alan Leeds had to say too.

Plus, could you really see Prince having a dance off with MJ???? Prince was wayyyyyy to cool for all that!!! cool

I'll take 'Bad' anyday over 'My Name Is Prince'. Especially the video. P as a gun toting gangster? I'll have an easier time believing MJ was a member of the Black Guerilla Family. I'm going to watch the "MNIP" video right now just for a laugh. Love ya, P!

Gangsta's don't wear chain link police hats and tailored satin black pants!

Maybe Tony M and those guys were looking gangsta wannabe.

But I'd much rather listen to "My Name is Prince" then "Bad"

Videos? I like both, but "My Name is Prince" is suprisingly the more contemporary arty one despite Scorcese directing "Bad". "Bad" was kind of like a super well crafted retro 16mm back to school special that then became a "West Side Story" type musical dance... which he had already done with "Beat It".

"My Name is Prince" has false news cast intro, in-joke with Kirsty Alley and her getting bumped, a false manniquin effigy prince glimpsed, heroin miming, and then those lyrics which go back to "The Wild One" and even go back to Bible creation... respun as a Prince fairy tale. And Prince doesn't show his face in the video (only glimpsed at the very end for a half sec). Those things are creative!

Now "Another Part of Me" on the other hand, is GREAT! The live video too. That was pure magic.

Who can blame him... biggrin

Prince also talked about this himself in an interview with Chris Rock (the comedian). Prince talked about being offered the role Wesley Snipes now has, as the 'enemy' of MJ in the video.

Check it out, it was a funny interview.

I have some good stuff on that time period, from 1983-1988 with Prince & Michael,

they had some competitive fun stuff between them.

Prince beating Michael @ ping pong, hitting Michael in the groin

then Michael turning around and wanting to do Bad with Prince

I still love the James Brown show were Michael did his thing and had James call Prince up

Prince was already in his 1st Avenue 1983 PR vibe, riding on the back of Chick

lol It's true! MNIP is a pretty cool video really come to think of it.

Neither of these pampered drag queens couldn't pull of "gangsta" if their lives depended on it, Prince doesn't even really try does he - it's gangster GLAM! batting eyes

Those are signs of a director whos trying to think outside the box, but arty becomes incompetent directing when all the ideas are completely random and don't in any way tie in with the song, story, ect. Thats not "artsy" its random.

But I think the video did come together quite nicely into cohesion. And even fit the sound of the music.

Unlike say his long form videos like the full "3 Chains of Gold" movie. In that context, the My Name is Prince video (it's a slightly different edit) just doesn't do anything because all the added narrative and crazy settings and unconvincing acting around it just grays it out.

TITO JACKSON (founding member and guitarist of the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons): Sure, my brothers and I listened to Prince…“1999,” “Little Red Corvette,” “When Doves Cry.” Thriller and Purple Rain were part of our times. That was a great era, wasn’t it? You had two great artists both doing incredible music at the same time. And then you had the fact that they both were exceptional live performers. Some people feel as though Prince is the greatest thing since sliced bread and some people feel like my brother is the greatest. To me, that’s what made that era so special.

QUESTLOVE: Michael attended many of the Purple Rain concerts. I have the four Purple Rain shows that were in Los Angeles in ’84. And now that I realize that Mike was in the audience, I often watch it to see if I can spot him [laughs]. But it makes you think. Why was Mike there four nights in a row? You have already created Thriller, you’ve done the Moonwalk, you’ve done the groundbreaking videos and you’ve sold a million a week. You are officially in the Guinness Book of World Records. For all intents and purposes, Purple Rain sold 15 million units, but it was hardly the 33 million that Thriller went on to sell. So why are you this curious to who is behind you? Then I realized that you can’t be that successful without being competitive. Michael knew Prince was a serious threat.

Let's be realistic here: there is NO competition as some people are trying to convey. Michael is NO match for Prince. Just to think that I used to be an enormous MJ fan...!

The reality is that Michael, apart from dancing and singing, is untalented. But, then again, I'll give him credit for having been probably the greatest dancer in mainstream music industry and, until the Bad tour, a fantastic singer. Apart from that, however, there is no more Michael Jackson. He is non-existent, as a talent, in any other area. To any of this opinion's critic: can you, as an adult, listen to the post-OTW work with a straight face? After OTW, his act was nothing more than childish, ridiculous and laughable while Prince became better and better.

I realized, a long time ago, Prince was much better than MJ when I did this; I had "The most beautiful girl in the world", "Batdance", "Cream", "My Name Is Prince", "Alphabet street" and some PR hits on my mp3 but never listened to it. I was a huge MJ fan and was listening to Bad and Dirty Diana on my mp3. I then, for some reason, changed to Prince's music. The distance between the quality was so unmistakeble, so unmaskable that it hit me. I changed to "Bad" again and realized how ridiculous it sounded. Not to mention the video. From then on, I came to my senses: Michael Jacksons (at least the one post-OTW) is for children, for Justin Bieber's fans while Prince is the real deal.

With Michael, you get controversy after controversy each day that passes. One day his family is trying to scam you, the other a scandal bursts. In the middle of this, some mediocre and cheese songs pop up. With Prince one gets music.

Like Wendy said: "Michael is Disney."

Even up to MJ's tragic death he was still very competitive of Prince & wanted to do everything he could to set records that Prince couldn't keep up with.He felt god was going to give Prince his ideas if he didn't do all he could be.

Prince's name was brought up a few times during the Conrad trial. The main reason Mj wanted to play 50 nights in london was to beat prince record there at the O2 arena. Which i felt he couldn't even if the tragic events never happen..

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I'm a way bigger MJ fan than Prince, but I also think Prince is an amazing musician and respect him a great deal for it. I don't like every single Prince song, but the many I do, are AMAZING! I feel that the only performer by far that threatens MJ onstage is Prince, I wouldn't even say that about Janet, and she's my second favourite artist and I love her shows. And MJ is not completely Disney, he has mass appeal and is universal, he does a little bit of something for everyone. Plus, both have influenced the sound of contemporary music and dance since 83/84, a lot of songs sound like they could be MJ inspired or Prince inspired.

Both bring out my freaky side too, so they're both doing something right, but in different capacities smile
