Tear Jerkers

I had to stop listening to Adele as while her voice is incredible and songs superb the melancholy of the album was truly depressing me. That got me thinking about whether I ever feel sad when listening to Prince? Even when listening to something remotely sad I am usually taken aback/suprised/excited by the tone of his voice, a guitar riff, or a flute and some horns. I LOVE his positivity and most of his songs therefore raise a smile : ) There is Lonely and Sometime it Snows in April however are tear jerkers for me. Considering his HUGE back catalogue and boots there has to be more that are just not in the forefront of my mind. What are they?

The only one that gets me is "Let's Have a Baby" because we all know how that turned out.

I don't even get sad listening to the baby's heartbeat in "Sex in the Summer" but LHAB turns on the waterworks.

Perhaps... but the anticipation and excitement really comes accross in that song. I don't think that is lost.

and its not just the words but the way he sings them near the end along with the melody..all the ones I suggested have a section where his voice is so damn passionate that it aches and is so mournful to me that it becomes very emotional.

To me it sounds melancholy..sad...yes its words/lyrics of happiness but the way its sung and in certain parts, it sounds like he is depressed. His mood comes across.

er

When the beautiful ladies of the NPG recently sang in the arms of the angels.... I Seriously cannot handle that. I've only been able to listen/watch it 3 times & my face is a tear stained mess. It touches me very deeply for some reason.

Please don't laugh at me, and I'll admit it.

Purple Rain.

Shut up. smile

No, seriously, I have my reasons. I won't go into my reasons here, because it'd take too much, but we'll leave it at Purple Rain gets me damn near every single time.

I fully credit both the soundtrack and the movie to Purple Rain for saving me. I was in a BAD depression at one point, almost to the point of doing something stupid, and...for some reason that I may never fully understand, the movie and the soundtrack helped pull me out of that. But especially Purple Rain the song. I don't know if it's what the song is about or if it's just what I needed to hear at the time, but it helped me IMMENSELY.

Hence why it kind of gets to me. smile

I can feel that. The movie initally spoke to me in many ways. While everyone enjoyed its rave up ending etc., I felt like I had been put through the ringer with all that went on.

She Gave Her Angels.

Condition of the Heart.

Still Waiting.

The Beautiful Ones.

Adore.

Until U're in My Arms Again.

Etc...

Oh, yall see where I'm going with this. Lol.

Maybe I cry too much... Hahaha;)

The entire Graffiti Bridge album makes me cry in a bad way... So does a lot of other stuff...

But don't get me started on that! smile

I'm glad you see where I'm coming from, lots of people don't get it.

It's kind of hard to explain why, out of all of his catalogue, that was the song that did it for me. But it did.

Another one that tends to bring me down a bit is I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore. Well, duh. wink

@DJFeelan Happy that PR spoke to you and that you are now here to tell your story as a result hug x

@allse7en totaly agree about Condition of the Heart.... but have to call you on Graffitti Bridge (I LOVE that album - imagine it with a couple of the original versions on there?! plus I can watch that film over & over again boxed ) But, i digress....

@Rdhull - have made concerted effort to get emotional to holy river in attempt to get where you are coming from- and you are totaly right about the vocal especially on the radio edit where it just stops (makes it more poignant i think).

I've got wasted kisses and so blue to add but there really isn't many truth be told. I can't count a case of you, angel & I can't make you love me, them not being his own (definitely emotional songs though). Do you think he holds back the really obviously sad stuff and we are all going to be able to have a good cry when he releases them from the vault?????
