Critics that did upset Prince

Prince like to act as if he don't care about

the negative music or press critics.

But some of them hurted him.

When he had high expectations

for projects like Graphitty Bridge the movie.Prince was

dissapointed that fans and critics didn't it.

Can you name a few examples?

Nelson George - Bob George got his sir name from him after a bad review of I think it was of Sign O The Times

CJ of the Star Tribune MPLS - Billy Jack Bitch is about this local gossip coloumist who Prince was convinced was an ex girlfriend.

According to Mavis Staples all the Lovesexy reviews in the US and the wallmart ban on the cover got him down

These are the onlytimes I think there's any evidence of the rest I'm afraid you're gonna have to ask Prince about

i can understand why those lovesexy reviews hurt. he must have been so frustrated that cover art was perceived as a sexual statement and seen only as a picture of a naked man.

my favourite prince dig at idiots concerned the furore caused by right wing christians and their uproar at the backward monologue of purple rain; the "satanic message".

how fucking stupid must they have felt when it was revealed to be "how are you? i'm fine cos i know the lord is coming...."?? classic!!!

Not a typo, just fucking retarded grammar...

And I don't give a shit who you wrote it to, I just noted something as I have every right to do that, as anyone else on here, so you don't have to explain or come up with bullshit to mask a stupidity...

Just saying...

Bob George was not about Nelson George, it was about his management at the time Robert Cavallo, George Rufallo and Steven Fargnoli... I guess Steven Fargnoli was spared....

Well, it does make perfect sense now that you mention it. eek

Where did you get that info? What I heard was that the song was named after Robert ("Bob") Cavallo and Nelson George ("George"). I never knew that the name stems from Bob Cavallo and George Rufallo. But yeah, it does make more sense than the version with Nelson George because it is even in the lyrics ( "..manage rockstars...who? Prince? That skinny motherfucker with that high voice?")

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Most of the bad reviews may have hurt him but keep in mind that there was also a negative review that he liked, simply because he felt that at least they got the storyline to Graffiti Bridge right.

( I think this was either a Rolling Stone or NME interview where the journalist interviews Prince and he´s reading a bad review but still kind of likes it because, in his opionion, at least they understand what the movie is about).

This was around 1991 and my memory is a bit blurry.

It was in the media at the time that one of them (Bob or George, can't remember which one) were going to sue.

A critic that Prince disliked was Jon Bream from the Minneapolis Tribune. I don't know what started the feud, but the first instance I know of was at one of the Purple Rain shows in St. Paul. During the song Baby I'm A Star when Prince strokes his guitar and it um...cums...Prince shot it all over Jon Bream. Another time at his first performance at Glam Slam Minneapolis in 1990, Jon got in but then was escorted out after Prince found out he was there. Prince said he didn't want Jon Bream to revue the show because there were a lot of new songs. He also used to go out to Paisley Park for shows and would be turned away. Sucks to be him! sad

wow, Nelson George is widely accepted as a "reputable" pop culture critic. he gave SOTT a bad review!? didn't know that. he probably rethinks that one now. too much of a good thing perhaps.
