PRINCE O+> SEASONAL SONGS

biggrin Hello.....Just wondering of how many seasonal songs Prince has produced or released as main song releases and b-side's, album tracks, etc

There are: "Another lonely christmas", "Sometimes it snows in april"

2 eye always include are: "rock 'n' roll is alive (and it lives in minneapolis)" as featured on the love 4 one another tv special with prince/mayte in winter attire and b-side to the december/seasonal release of "GOLD"

Also there is: "eye love u in me" which is the b-side to "the arms of orion" which was released at a seasonal/winter time

Happy to open to the floor so to speak......don't think there are many!

cool

Emancipation album....esp. Soul Sanctuary is pretty seasonal with "unbothered by chaos swirling around outside"

TRC also reminds me of this time of year....

The lyrics to "Strollin'" make me envision Spring or Summer, although the music wouldn't feel out of place around Christmas time either.

"Raspberry Beret" elludes to Spring time as well.

Of course there's "Sex in the Summer" and I think Prince has a song called "Snowman," but I haven't heard it.

biggrin Of course it is a very changeable album for seasons as I found "betcha by golly wow" very wintery due to the vid mainly and when released! smile

Disc two's "Sex in the summer" real feel of that season is the complete contrast cool

Yes, I find "Strollin'" is very summer suitable sounding and can be changeable though..........a lot of it goes with when the album is released/promoted as emancipation was later in the year and "diamonds and pearls" was spring/summer? Most of the prince albums I relate to are ones released around June / July time to always have that summer feel! So much on prince is like that cool

I think these associations are based on when you first heard it/played it the most (in my case anyway). It's like Eman reminds me of Christmas because that's when I got it! White Mansion is especially Christmassy to me, as are One Kiss At A Time and Soul Sanctuary...

Strollin always reminds me of a sunny autumn day, love that song...

I'm sure it's the video and placement in the movie but Take Me With You has always reminded me of an autumn day where you skipped school or work and hung out all day (and tried to get a chick to strip down and purify herself in Lake Minnetonka)

Yes agree with that totally.....Emancipation I was first playing it late in the year so a lot of the songs have that winter feel.......spring and winter are both quoted in "sometimes in snows in april"? Prince is very influenced by the seasons in a lot of his songs which is part of the reason I started the thread and it does make a lot of sense as these are fun and mostly very emotive times of the year endorsed fully in his creative verse and music that many can empathise with cool

If you go back to the release of the song which I would say was spring/summer and when the film/video was made which was autumn/winter you have an ideal seasonal influenced feel! I really like the bit on the bike as it looks so autumnal.....and so cool! cool

The 12 Inch version of Sheila E's "The Belle Of St. Mark" always reminds me of Christmas with the jingle bells in the intro.

And who could forget this stockin' stuffer:

'Tis the nightmare called ChristMESS that has the whole earth
Practicing pagan rituals in the name of Christ's birth
The stockings r hung, yet none seem 2 care
The Bible makes no such reference 2 this affair
The children r told of some nice guy in red
While the truth about Santa is Satan instead
And mama passes tradition 2 her kids' little laps
Enabling the origin of ChristMESS 2 remain under wraps
2 lazy 2 research what u've bLIEved since ur youth?
Then sit back and listen while eye tell u the truth...

Away from the lies that r simply rehashed
Eye opened the Bible and threw up, quite aghast
No mention that Jesus was born in December
So, who is it, each year, that the people remember?
O, what 2 my wandering eyes should eye find
But a celebration called Saturnalia - then, further backwards eye climbed
He bgan a fake religion that competed with God
Eye knew at that moment it was Nimrod!

More rapid my heart beat the blood thru my veins
If Christ was never in ChristMESS, what then remains?
The wreaths, mistletoe, ChristMESS goose and the fixins
ChristMESS trees, gift-giving and holey day mixin
From the whole list there's none u should leave
All pagan in origin, they only dceive

B4 u knew the whole truth, it wasn't a lie
But, now that u know, it's on u 2 deny
Now on2 the icon, of course, u all knew
Bhind that long, flowing beard Santa hid something 2

All eye had was an inkling, so eye went in search of the proof
That Santa was not what eye'd learned in my youth
Eye drew in my breath when the truth hit my eye
Xposed were the roots of this so-called good guy

He's dressed all in red - take note of the hue
And that right there provides the first clue
With a bundle of toyz 2 teach children greed
Walk in2 any toy store and watch him succeed
Y yes, it is true, as the anagram will suggest
SANTA is SATAN, just festively dressed

His wry, little mouth is drawn up in a sneer
As children continue their worship year after year
Upon his mind, do u suppose that it gnaws
The telling morph of his name 2 spell SATAN'S CLAWS?
Yet, the characteristics of God he assumes as his own:
Omniscient, omnipresent - he's after God's throne

He is cunning and wicked, sure no jolly old elf
Now eye cringe when eye c him, no longer kidding myself
This nightmare called ChristMESS - how eye was misled -
In honor of Jesus, upholding Nimrod instead!
Churches ignore this truth tho it lurks
Eye guess appeasing the pagans wins over converts
ChristMESS lies warrant cleanup or else they r liable
2 put one at odds with what's taught in the Bible
Celebr8 how u like - the way u did in ur youth
Or recognize God as a Spirit 2 b worshipped in TRUTH

Eye heard it xclaimed while thru Jeremiah eye was breezin',

"Thus saith the Lord, learn not the way of the heathen."

Prince = one crazy MF. But we love him lol

^ Did he write this? I vaguely remember something similar from the L40A site...not bad, although i don't really agree with the sentiment..

I mean even if the date isn't exact, it's the celebration of Christ's birth and is a season where people try to show goodwill to one another....whether its December or March, it's still worth celebrating IMO.

It's well known that Christian dates and sites of worship were placed onto of Pagan ones, to nullify them and to get people to focus on the Christian message instead, it was seen as an easier way for them to convert.....

Presumably it was Prince. It was posted on one of those early sites in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

although i don't really agree with the sentiment..

I agree, but I suspect for some similar and some different reasons wink. There's some interesting truths in there about the history of Christmas, but it's too full of Jehovah mumbo-jumbo mixed with his own brand of fanciful delusion for my liking. I have no problem with the Xmas celebration in general though. I think it's a good thing to have a day each year where we try and focus on family, loved ones and just celebrating life... even if some of its origins are based on mythology.

Satan's Claws? Oh please wall

and who could forget the song he released on xmess day on npgmc one year...

I heard there is no Christmas
In the silly Middle East
No trees, no snow, no Santa Claus
They have different religious beliefs

They believe in Muhammad
And not in our holiday
And so every December
I go to the Middle East and say...

"Hey there Mr. Muslim
Merry fucking Christmas
Put down that book the Koran
And hear some holiday wishes.

In case you haven't noticed
It's Jesus's birthday.
So get off your heathen Muslim ass
and fucking celebrate.

There is no holiday season in India I've heard
They don't hang up their stockings
And that is just absurd!

They've never read a Christmas story.
They don't know what Rudolph is about
And that is why in December
I'll go to India and shout...

Hey there Mr. Hinduist
Merry fucking Christmas
Drink eggnog and eat some beef
And pass it to the missus.

In case you haven't noticed
It's Jesus's birthday
So get off your heathen Hindu ass
and fucking celebrate!

Now I heard that in Japan
Everyone just lives in sin
They pray to several gods
And put needles in their skin.

On December 25th
All they do is eat a cake
And that is why I go to Japan
And walk around and say...

Hey there Mr. Shintoist
Merry fucking Christmas
God is going to kick your ass
You infidelic pagan scum.

In case you haven't noticed
There's festive things to do
So lets all rejoice for Jesus
And Merry fucking Christmas to you.

On Christmas day I travel `round the world and say,
Taoists, Krishnas, Buddhists, and all you atheists too,
Merry Fucking Christmas, To You!
