When did Prince start playing bass and drums live?

Was Prince playing bass and drums on Prince tour? Purple Rain tour?

I've seen a picture of Prince playing bass together

with Andre but he only played left hand while bass was on Andre.

I always thought that first drum playing by

Prince in concert was in 1985 on America live

and that he didn't play bass live until 1992.

Am i wrong?

Yeah sorry thebanishedone! Got carried away as soon as I pictured Prince playing bass & went off on one. Saw him on The Gold experience tour where he played Days of Wild/Hair & Get Wild & God knows what others delights! Oooh & dream of my dreams....Endorphinmachine, but that wasn't bass. Ahh such sweet memories!

I think Sign O The Times was the first one where he played Drums as part of the rehearsed set list.... Just a little during Beautiful Night

Bass was I think as late as Act II when he did Pope that he did it as part of the rehearsed set.

However he's played both at smaller concerts and the occasional one off during the big shows his whole career

But I've seen a video clip of him during the Parade tour playing the drums. So it was before SOTT.

the first time i ever really took note of Prince as a bass player, was back in the day when some 1 introduced me 2 a jam of him and Sheila E. him, on bass, she on drums. I remember b'ing blown away and thinking...wow, Prince is singing & playing the funkiest bass. other funkheads migh have more details on this jam session.

But was it a feature in the show every night or just a one off. I know he done it during the America video.

I think Sign O The Times was the first where it was done every night as part of the setlist rather than a improvised feature.... However I could be wrong
