Starting to love this song a lot headbang cuz it's true falloff anyway I've noticed that most of the songs from Planet Earth never really get talked about here-wonder why? The guitar work on The One U Wanna C is superb guitar SHOE is great and I even like Mr. Goodnight giggle so why no love for Planet Earth around here? hmmm

I love this track and I enjoy the album, the only song I'm not too fussed about is Chelsea Rodgers. I burnt myself a copy with PFUNK replacing Chelsea Rodgers and it makes for a much better album IMO.

Hi nurse, wink

my opinion on Planet Earth:

I love Future Baby Mama, and the title track is ok..

that's about it for me.

You guys are right about Chelsea Rodgers, I don't like that track either...

sounds a bit pseudo-funky to me... the rest of the tracks are just weak.

I got a lot of copies from the give away (I was in London to witness 3 shows),

I gave a lot of them away, but people never listended to them.

My official copy from my local record shop here in Denmark is still unopened, sealed.

This is really one of the worst Prince albums ever.

Even Somewhere Here On Earth makes me cringe, I can't hear the greatness some others are talking about........

I wish I could tell something positive about PE, but I better forget about that album.

The concerts in London were superb - Prince is fantastic live.

Damn I wish he had more good music to deliver, but I have my doubts, could it be all over - album wise?

I wish I could've seen those live shows I know that was amazing. Sad that so many have never opened those PE copies-it's not his best work but it has it's moments. SHOE is beautiful if you give it a chance hug never really liked chelsea as I said it is a terrible song, but I do think PE is a grower. Thanks for the great post.

The original version of Guitar was released on the web quite some time before the album and was quite different sounding to the album version. Never cared much for the original but love the album and live versions.

I actually like the Planet Earth album a lot. It may surprise some people, but I became a Prince fan in 2007, and it was actually this album that was responsible. For whatever reason, his 80s hits didn't do it for me back then, but this album really connected with me, and it's what got me into Prince.

I loved "Somewhere Here On Earth" on first listen - it's a classy song nice lyrics and one of Prince's better vocal performances. "Guitar" isn't outstanding, but it's a lot of fun. "The One U Wanna C" is kind of a poor man's "Guitar" to me, but it's still a fun song. "Mr. Goodnight" is imo his best attempt at 'rhytmic speaking'. "Resolution" is catchy, and "Planet Earth" and "Resolution" are two rare examples of Prince talking about the state of the world and not making a complete ass out of himself. The only song I don't like is "Chelsea Rodgers", and I'm glad you all agree on that, because I've heard a lot of people call it the only good song on the whole album. I don't think it's funky, and I don't like the female singer one bit.

I agree Planet Earth isn't as exciting or energetic as his 80s music, but he was in his late 40s when he made it. This is kinda the music you'd expect from a man his age. I'm not saying that should make you like it, but I think it's a great display of his lyrical, vocal and instrumental abilities, and therefore still an impressive album.

And to Thedance, or whoever agrees with what they wrote: do you enjoy hearing the songs off Planet Earth live? It seems that a lot of people who complain about his new music mainly complain about poor production (as opposed to the songs themselves), yet they say he's still great live, so do you like his recent songs when they're performed live?

I've been considering throwing "Turn Me Loose" on the album in it's place, but I apparently deleted that song off my computer. Maybe I will use PFUnk/F.U.N.K. instead.

I think The One U Wanna C is a very good song. I played it for my brother and a friend who don't usually listen to Prince and they liked it a lot, so I'm guessing that it has mainstream appeal. To me that's a step in the right direction.

I really like Planet Earth. I know I'm in the minority of very few, but...I don't know, I've never been able to explain it, it just really appeals to me.

"Imagine holding planet Earth in the palm of your hand/With no regard for your place of birth or claim to any land..." I know lots of people are going to think I'm nuts, but for some reason, this just really...hits the spot for me. I myself think it's creative as all get out.

I DIDN'T like Guitar on my first couple of listens, I HATED it, but it's grown on me. Sure, it's cheesy, and sure, the riff reminds me a HELL of a whole lot of U2's "I Will Follow," but...it's grown on me. Not my favorite on the album, but I have grown to kind of rollick a little bit with it. Truth be told, I kind of think Prince is being honest--I'm sure he doesn't love ANYBODY, except maybe himself, more than he loves his guitar. smile

ALL my friends, who most of them ARE Prince fans, for the record, think it's dumb...but I'm not ashamed to admit it. Somewhere Here On Earth is awesome. I like it when Prince slows down. Me myself personally, I think the slower Prince songs are his best songs. I LOVE the sax. Maybe not his best lyrical work, I admit, but "And even though I'm all alone/For what it's worth/You're somewhere here on Earth/And I like it" is powerful. Or at least I think so anyway.

Now, The One U Wanna C, which is what the thread is about (sorry for this RAMBLING, but I felt I should finally give a review of this thing, since I'm one of the few who hasn't,) is a great track. It's hit and miss with a lot of people. Some like it, some don't. Which is cool, but when I hear "I don't wanna waste your time/But if you wanna get creamy/I'm the one you wanna see," I kind of, temporarily, go back in time. That sounds like a much cleaner version of something our old friend "early" Prince would've come up with. I don't really see it as country, but...yeah, okay, maybe for Prince standards it's a bit country, but I loved it from first listen. Probably my favorite on the album.

Future Baby Mama is a strange tune. I'd like it so much more if I knew who in the hell he was talking about, but it's the...strangest...song on the album.

Mr. Goodnight. Once again, in my opinion anyway, we get a cleaner version of the "early" Prince on this track. "Mr. Goodnight/He'll make you feel alright/Make you throw your head back and holla/It's so nice/So nice." Honestly, if I can find a "new" Prince song that has even a trace of our old friend "early" Prince in it--even if it's a MINOR clean version--I'll take it with a smile on my face. It's not his best work ever, but it's not bad. (Like I said, that's MY take on it.)

All The Midnights In The World is, truthfully, another song that I like, but I'd like a whole lot more if I knew who in the hell he was singing about. "For all the midnights in the world/This one will serve you better if you choose to be my girl," is a great line. I'd like the line (and the song) a whole hell of a lot more if I knew who in the world he was singing about, but I really have no complaints with this one. Not his best work, but for the time frame (especially considering the album before and the albums after,) this isn't too bad.

Then we come to Chelsea Rodgers. Let me repeat that and let it soak in for a minute. Then we come to Chelsea Rodgers. No comment. This is the WORST song on the album, and it's probably one of my least favorite Prince songs...ever. I WILL agree with the majority on the org, and the majority of Prince fans, it seems...this just doesn't work for me. If I could, I'd chuck this one from memory. No love for this song. Not from me.

Lion Of Judah, myself, I feel is one of those "too religious, shove my religion down your throat" songs. And, since I HATE it when somebody tries to shove ANY religion down my throat, I'll admit--this one, for that reason, will get no love from me. It's not bad, but because of the whole, what I interpret as, shoving his religion down my throat--again--this song gets no love from me.

I like Resolution. Actually, in sequence, Planet Earth opening with its title track and closing with Resolution seems, to me, like one of those older Prince records that have a storyline. It seems like a good close to a storyline (that really doesn't exist) that would've started with Planet Earth at the beginning. I find that interesting. And I truthfully agree with the lyrics. "With love in the lead resolution will follow..." I can agree with that, so I'll give this track some love.

Two bad songs, in my opinion, and the rest of them good enough for my taste, I'll give Planet Earth a thumbs up.

Feels good to finally get that off my chest.

Again, I know the thread is about that one song (The One U Wanna C) in particular, but, since I'm one of the few who hasn't completely reviewed Planet Earth on the org yet, I took the opprotunity to do so. Sorry for rambling on and on, but it feels good to have finally gotten it done. (And yes, I was as honest as honest can be.)

"I never want to stop singing this song!" Prince in Montreal, 12/2/11, just before performing Purple Rain
