Who believes Prince misses 'back in the day?' It's obvious for the Revolution, back in the hey day of the 80's was a time they owned, and they all, through various interviews seem to keep positive and upbeat; yet I always sense a silent ghost of a thought speaking on their breath that says something to the rule of, "Yes, now is okay, but man back in the day was the best time, and I'd love to do it all over again."
The question is, though Prince has maintained an icon status and made many achievements, who thinks he also misses living back in the day and would love to do it all over again? We are all so full of here

I am sure he doesn't...He creates so much art, and does not seem to live in the success of anything for a extended period of time. He even stopped doing extended mixes. Haha. He just wants the NEXT THING.
He could not even let 'Purple Rain' breathe before he came with 'Around The World In A Day' 9 months afterwards. I mean WHO DOES THAT? PRINCE!
That tells me, after he finishes with something, it's ON TO THE NEXT. Even if the success is overwhelming, he is ready for something new.
I guess that can be good and bad..lol It's Button Therapy, Baby!

I think at times that attitude undersold himself and the record. (Look at the arguments made before that he should've continued touring SOTT more, especially in America. Or TGE especially when that finally was released.)

i totally disagree w/ the sentiment and think it could not be further from the truth. Prince's conx to back in the day is his longing for real musicians making real music and getting recognised for it, as opposed 2 any1 off the street who can create a look, link up w/ computer literate musical producers and package "hits."
no - if anything, he is loving the present and is succeeding in doing what he might miss from others, that is producing and playing live music with real musicians. many out there in the music industry have a lot to learn from him, and in retrospect, i am glad the Revolution as we knew it in the 80's
is history. No justice, No peace

any1 who "thinks" Prince is not making great achievements is obviously not aware of his current tour in Canada

I don't think so at all. He's never been that fond of discussing the past - in a recent interview about 2010, the interviewer was trying to ask him the same sort of question and kept harping on about SOTT and he just said "Its 2011 - can we talk about now?".
I feel Prince (rightly) just views the past as the building blocks of what got him here today. Another thing he was asked about what he thought of his past, he said something along the lines of "I just look back and think about how badly I played" There's nothing wrong with that - sure, he's probably being deliberately coy, but it just shows how progressive he is with himself and that's a really hard thing; to keep challenging oneself, even after all these years, he just continues with the desire to improve.
Some will say to that "Yeah, but his music isn't as good as it used to be" - to that I say, its just not as ground-breaking as it was back then. There is nothing wrong with the quality of his compositions, arrangements, production or musicianship for the most part, he's just not shattering barriers as he once used to. But then, isn't it a little much to expect someone to completely change the game on the music scene more than once in a lifetime? ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I always agreed with this line
"looking back, I don't miss nothing except the time..."
Maybe there are some people I miss, but I don't miss my past, why should Prince? My Legacy

I don't miss my past either that much even though I like to reflect. But I always had this motto of "going forward without looking back". Honestly the one time you look back is when you're heading to the grave.

Lots of acts pre-1970's. Many released 2 or 3 albums a year, plus non-album singles in some cases. Actually, you are right about that! James Brown did that, and many others. It's true. I guess what I mean is an artist of his caliber. Knowing how successful he was, in many cases I think it worked for him. It's Button Therapy, Baby!

That's because people recorded quickly back then as they only had 2 or 4 track machines and everything had to be recorded live. Sometimes mistakes were left in, especially with small labels. In the early 1970's multi-track consoles became popular, so many acts started taking their time trying to make "perfect" recordings and overdubbing.
