Prince , LG & Maceo -'Stand' Canada Dec 11-shows us just how good the funk could be!

Don't flame me!. Just seen the clip and I have to say that I was blown away at how tight, focussed and above all else funky this is. Whatever your thoughts on LG, Maceo etc are P is right to bring them in on the occasional gig to show the youngsters some of the roots of todays R&B. Just listen to LG on 5.14 funkin on the bass and then joined by Maceo and all led by Prince. 3 ledgends in rare form.

Great job, really enjoyed it and who can blame P for indulging and playing with his heroes.

Super glad to hear that Larry Graham still joins Prince on stage. Maceo is still the

king of horn.

Love Larry and Maceo. Love Prince, and am really grateful they appear together with

their wonderful talents blended skillfully together.

I wish I felt like you do Funkyhead...

While I really enjoy the lyrics and melody of Stand, Prince's funk these days lacks the strangeness/uniqueness that he once dropped on us so often.

The synth sounds he chooses these days are super boring - every cover band plays with the same sounds. Prince's sounds used to be quite unique - just like him.

The funk stuff he does is cool but it's not eccentric cool like it used to be.

I just saw him 5 times in the last 12 days! It was awesome but safe

Whilst i enjoy Prince's newer work incredibly, i do see where you're coming from here. We do still get glimpses of that eccentricity ala 3121 or Black Sweat, but i, someone usually in the positive realm, see that eccentricity/mad scientist creativity becoming a bit distant lately, in exchange for a more simple, but all the while infectious groove. He's still funky, on form etc, but i get what you're saying.

Prince doesn't do eccentric at large stadium shows, he gives a performance for a mass very general audience whos individual tastes it'd be impossible to predict.

Change it one more time..

The great thing about this performance is its tightness - there's no endless rambling funk jam that goes on for ages and doen't really go anywhere. Each musician is given a small slot in which to shine and shine they do - the end result is that it leaves me wanting more and having to hit the replay button - rather like his records used to be!.

I have to say that this is the most I have enjoyed LG on stage with P in a long, long while. Really hope LGs 2012 CD lives up to his ability and hits us with some really funk and MEMORABLE MELODIES!. Pray that there aren't any sugary ballads on there!.

The first night of the North Sea Jazz Festival had some sound difficulties, but when Maceo and Larry joined, it was sheer magic! How often do you get the chance to not only see three music legends share a stage, but who also go together really well. Larry adds the bottom and Maceo the flavor. So what if the song (Everyday People in Rotterdam) has been played to death? Like Funkyhead said, this one was tight, not going on for too long, but long enough to enjoy it. Same goes for Let's Go Crazy and I always enjoy that one as well.

I hear you - I still enjoy some of his newer material. I enjoy listening to his voice and how he arranges his music but man, I wish there was something fresh coming out of Paisley Park.

I have always loved the Come record - part of it was because of the drum programming which was fresh to death at the time. Chronic Freeze did some fantastic work with Prince. Songs like Dig U Better Dead and Had U from Chaos and Disorder were fascinating pieces of work in that Prince was making sounds with instruments he had used but in a very different manner.

Hope he finds that magic again!

There isn't an ounce of funk in that clip. It's a bunch of old folks playing a mediocre cover.

How many frikking times do I need to point out that he played B-Sides and even an UNRELEASED track on the Purple Rain show that was broadcast on TV and released on VHS?

For crying out loud, just watch "God" from that show and tell me that ain't eccentric.

And that was Prince at his most popular, playing in front of kids who'd never heard of him.

That was also 26 years ago when he was young, he swore and was freaky all over. Now he's middle aged and doing what he wants to do, if you don't like what he does anymore then don't listen to or watch him anymore.

Yep....all we need is to transfer the talent that Prince can still show on stage - and translate that into a decent CD. Get them in the studio complete with that 'live' sound and lay down some new tracks...

People get old dude.. they get old and they change. Sorry to bring this 'there's no real santa claus' moment to you, but the sooner you accept it the sooner you'll get over it and appreciate life for what it is. Expecting some to be the same person they were 30 years ago is kinda wacky

Change it one more time..

We're not hoping Prince reverts back to swearing or doing the splits...

The guy has become a homophobic woman demeaning racist prejudice asshole.

He was the exact opposite of that when I first came upon him and his music
