TRC: Prince's most cohesive album??? I think so!
The album has a great flow, the production has an organic feel in all the songs and even lyrically it's quite cohesive with that storyline about the Rainbow Children and the Banished Ones, whether you dig the message or not... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Yeah, quite possibly. I can't be arsed to listen to it anymore. It has got style. I respect the vision Prince has for that record.

This is one of my favourite Prince albums- right up there with SOTT, PR et al.
I don't know, I just play it a lot. If I was going to a deserted island with only one album, this one would serve me well.

trc's more like one of those read-along storybooks than an album...

TRC just gets better and better. I never tire of this album. I swear, when I got this I nearly wrecked my marriage
This went in the CD player and I stuck the phones on and listened to it 3 times from start to finish. It didn't come out of my hi-fi once for about a week. Love it.

Not my favorite. Not even close. Not that there's anything wrong with it...
I'm wondering if younger fans like this album more than the older ones. What do you think?

I'm guessing younger fans don't get it - it's not the Hip-Hop-Flava-Flav of Rave Un2 the Crap Fantastic... this is a complete change of direction from the last thing he did.
Well - except for the GET SAVED message. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

No, no, his worst album, not because the music is bad, but because the songs seem stale and un-original. All the songs are real layed back and boring. He even copies past styles, but has lesser songs. Listen to a great song like 2morrow and compare to dreck like Mellow.
Dumb religious, preachy lyrics that border on bigoted towards woman and other beliefs. Not very funky, or funky as a paste on type of funky. No real genius in the songs or inventiveness. His need to constantly jam is padding for the sake of padding. Every song sounds like songs we have heard before, but better; much better. He even rips off D'angelo's keyboard sound. Does a dumb song on race. Everlasting Now preaches then expects us to dance at the same time. bah. Nothing exciting, or jaw dropping about sound. In the old days I couldn't wait to listen to the new Prince joint, now I just, Sad album. But better than some of the outtakes, on npgmc..Daisy Chain anyone? All you others say Hell Yea!!

I think if we could strip away the vocals, except the choruses (chorii?) then you would be a bit more impressed with it.
The music is pretty good, the lyrics are fucking embarassing. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I agree...the album flows right through. It was really well put together, that's why it's one of my favorites also... [This message was edited Tue Feb 18 19:37:31 PST 2003 by Starmist7]

Gawd, that's just dumb. You mean the same way that D'Angelo ripped off Stevie's, Mayfield's, and Hathaway's sound among others? Get real. And GET SOME PER SPEC TIVE. Next thing I know some neophyte will say that Prince stole his vocal style and falsetto from D'Angelo. With the exception of about 2 songs on TRC, I hate it. I would rather listen to any of Prince's cds but this one.
and I'm a left over from the 80's

I'd vote for Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Parade, Lovesexy, Batman, Gold Experience and Rave before TRC. Maybe that's my bias talking. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

hi, i am a younger fan (25), and no, i don't like it any more than his older stuff, in fact, i hate the rainbow children. it has some good jazzy music, but the voiceover shit drives me insane. i got all excited about it, ran out and bought, and have listened to it maybe 3 times. blehhh... And 2morrow better than Mellow? WTF! Come on people, go and listen to more and learn, for fuck's sake. TRC is good. I can't understand people that would take some appalling electronic throwaway rubbish over well played music. The kind of people that think Destiny's Child are comparable at RnB to Stevie Wonder I guess. X 1000 ...some people [This message was edited Fri Feb 21 9:33:20 PST 2003 by sawatdiikhrap]

Im 21.Its my favorite, with lovesexy and sott!I got into prince last year, but i have all his records including crystal ball.Maybe its not as original as his 80s work but its good to hear him playing his heart out and not trying to be comercial. The worst thing about prince is that he symplyfies his music for the masses. At last he is not interested in the charts but playing real music. Now if only he dropped all that preaching it be in heaven...
