is "come" Prince's most worked on song? i mean damn i have about at least six versions of this jam
and today heard a brand new version with the vocals to the fore and that killer bass throbbing away

What brand new version?
I know of:
Glamslam Ulysses version (minimal with bass, drums & vox)
Beautiful Experience Version (remix of the above with more 'techno' sound
Come Album Version (slower, jazzy version with lots of horns)
18 & Over (Different song but utilising some musical parts & lyrics.
What have I missed?
Oh and What about The Most Beautiful Girl in the World? Surely there's more versions of that, there's about 50 of the buggers! blah blah blah

Love that version, it's like the TBE version but with live drums right? it kicks the album version's arse all over.

I love the album but how much better would it have been with the Glamslam Ulysses version and no silly poem bits inbetween the songs and stuck the poem bits in with orgasm at the end. would've made it more awesome than it is and in my top 3 Prince albums for sure.

I don't care what any of you say but the album version is by far my favorite version

I agree, I like the other versions, but the one on the album is near perfect.

^ This and this.
The layering on that jam is immaculate! The hundreds of times I've listened to it, seems I can still find new things I've never heard before.
Come is fucking magic. | |

I don't know. I almost think The Most Beautiful Girl In The World might take those honors. You know how many versions and mixes he did of that shit!!!

The album version is the sexiest song he's ever done, just how slinky are those horns and the horn lead line. Amazing song, also adore the 'techno' version as well.

Come isn't sexy, it's vulgar. "Climb in my fur."

I like the 'bootleg' versions better. There was this 'semi' bootleg recording he gave to a dutch radio station early 93 that was really amazing. Very different and much better imo than the official versions.

I like that fast throbbing version that starts out with him stating "This is the dawning, of a new spiritual revolution" "Climb in my fur."

^thats the one. it has a different arrangement, beat and instrumentation (less jazzy/soulful more funky/trippy). Lyrically it's also more focused on the spiritual, not the sexual.
and it was accompanied by a different version of acknowledge me and some other tunes too

Wasn't the Beautiful Experience version of Acknowledge Me just shorter?

^ Im not really into all the exact names and dates of the different recordings anymore, but it were some of the early versions of the whole 'come' album era

Yeah, the version that he officially released on "Crystal Ball" has that rap verse at the end that goes: "Come on pretty baby sit your butt on the chair and let me run agenda in and out of your hair."

IIRC, it fades out right before the rap verse. The Crystal ball version is basically the full version. There's a fuller version out there, but it just has more of the All My Dreams sample at the end with some more instrumentation during the bridge.

I'm still waiting to see this list of over 6 versions...
Do we have a habitual thread starter here, or does he actually revisit threads he started? blah blah blah

I'd guess "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" has about 10 versions or more.

Wasn't there meant to be 21 configurations or something according to that Boxtalk featurette? blah blah blah
