What would you change in Prince's production style? Some fans complain about the sound of some records, albums. What is it that you dislike about his sound on records? Does he add too much reverb, too little, high on compression? Are the vocals too dry?

He changes it himself and tries something new each album so I can't answer that.

everything on the more recent albums sounds slammed against a limiter, or something. Maybe that's exactly what's happening, i'm not sure. I'm no engineer.
Not a fan of the crushed sound. Big fan of SOTT, where everything has soooo much room, depth, clarity, dynamics...

Don't know anything about production, but I'll try
Some drumsounds are too thin for me, especially the Batman album (Lemon crush, Partyman). They are good songs, but I believe would be much better with a warmer drumsound. Feel You Up also comes to mind.
Does this have anything to do with production style?

I think the sound of his electronic tracks could be thicker, more massive and powerful. He uses too little reverb and effects in recent years.
ALso I think that when he uses drummachine sounds he should process them more. Just like in the good old days (Purple Rain and ARound The WOrld in A Day), he had the biggest, baddest sound back then! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Cool question thebanishedone...
Let me start by saying that his 80s material certainly sounds better than his most recent stuff. The Rainbow Children was a major step forward in terms of sound quality but then he immediately went back to the plastic presentation of his material.
The new stuff sounds thin and plastic - there isn't the depth that his earlier music had.
Many of the songs lose their appeal as a result of how they are presented.

Well, I'm no engineer either but things that pop to mind...
His music, arrangements were very much worked on, sophisticated, original but the overall sound of a song was spacious. The thing that I dislike on his newer productions; there seem to be tons of new peeps and clicks and things, like there's a zillion things layered on top of each other, and at the same time the punch of the rhythm is gone and it all falls flat.
And something else is the way that his older recordings often climax in some way of other. There was a build up of an atmosphere and mood, almost like a storyline; chrystal ball being the perfect example, Automatic another. With his current recordings it sounds like he starts the car and drives along the highway, passing the same scenery for the length of the song, and that's it. It just stops. The 'three albums in the can' thing. I.e.: the fact that he is ahead of his releases and thus plays less of the 'new' material and/or puts less of an effort into the tour(s) associated with these releases. (as we perceive it..) Yes, you can still play the hits on a tour of new material. (ever heard of overexposure?) Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

- go back to more minimalist style of production (Dirty Mind, WDC) - more experimental (ATWIAD) - use more analog equipement (Linn, Oberheim) - More Energetic (Revolution style) - Use Clare Fisher for arrangements

I wish he could get his music properly mixed & mastere, like it used to be. It sounds really really cheap & lifeless now days...... الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

Cut the cheese. Never going to nab the temporary and passing Beiber and Rebeca Black crowd so he should stop pandering with Mplsound and 20Ten type releases. Prepubescent pop only works for "real" prepubescent artists. [Edited 12/13/11 6:09am]
