Whatever your thoughts on LG, Maceo etc are P is right to bring them in on the occasional gig to show the youngsters some of the roots of todays R&B. Just listen to LG on 5.14 funkin on the bass and then joined by Maceo and all led by Prince. 3 ledgends in rare form.

The great thing about this performance is its tightness - there's no endless rambling funk jam that goes on for ages and doen't really go anywhere. Each musician is given a small slot in which to shine and shine they do - the end result is that it leaves me wanting more and having to hit the replay button - rather like his records used to be!.

I have to say that this is the most I have enjoyed LG on stage with P in a long, long while. Really hope LGs 2012 CD lives up to his ability and hits us with some really funk and MEMORABLE MELODIES!. Pray that there aren't any sugary ballads on there!.

He used to - it was his norm. For the last 15 years or so, he's been serving up that pedestrian funk and unfortunately, it's not my cup of tea.

I guess this is what it sounds like when Prince gets old.

Whilst i enjoy Prince's newer work incredibly, i do see where you're coming from here. We do still get glimpses of that eccentricity ala 3121 or Black Sweat, but i, someone usually in the positive realm, see that eccentricity/mad scientist creativity becoming a bit distant lately, in exchange for a more simple, but all the while infectious groove. He's still funky, on form etc, but i get what you're saying.

I hear you - I still enjoy some of his newer material. I enjoy listening to his voice and how he arranges his music but man, I wish there was something fresh coming out of Paisley Park.

I have always loved the Come record - part of it was because of the drum programming which was fresh to death at the time. Chronic Freeze did some fantastic work with Prince. Songs like Dig U Better Dead and Had U from Chaos and Disorder were fascinating pieces of work in that Prince was making sounds with instruments he had used but in a very different manner.

Hope he finds that magic again!

That was also 26 years ago when he was young, he swore and was freaky all over. Now he's middle aged and doing what he wants to do, if you don't like what he does anymore then don't listen to or watch him anymore.

Yep....all we need is to transfer the talent that Prince can still show on stage - and translate that into a decent CD. Get them in the studio complete with that 'live' sound and lay down some new tracks...
