My question:

Is this some alternate cover artwork and at some stage considered to be the album cover..?

Or is it just "an outtake", never considered to be the cover..?

Who knows, besides Prince..?

So great to see something else from that shoot. It certainly does look like a mockup 'safe' cover. Lovely to see, but I'm glad it wasn't used. Lovesexy is my favourite album cover by anybody.

This is neither. Warner Bros. had to promote the album. This photo was used in various trade, music, pop culture, and other various magazines to help promote the album. Of course, some pubications refused the original cover.

This is a cropped picture of the original advertisment. What you are not seeing is the ad copy at the bottom, promoting the release of Lovesexy. If I can find the full page ad, I'll post it.

Curious. I always thought this was the cropped image used to promote the album: http://www.princevault.co...vesexy.jpg. I guess there could have been more than one...

From what I remember from the old Housequake days that was an alternative cover "safe" photo. Glad it wasn't used, that looks pretty cheesy. Lovesexy cover was a calculated risk that turned out to be a doubled edged sword.

He looks kinda bummed in this photo.
