This is what we've been saying all the long, but some people are mis-hearing it as "turn her gay", which is just odd and makes no sense.

It's his ill-used phrase "a gay" that they're misunderstanding, that and the next line is said immediately after, so some are also hearing "gay preacher" - which makes a modicum more sense, but is still incorrect.

We had the answer down on page 1 I think, but here we are!.....

But its not "turn a gay" and then another line, the whole line is "Turn a gay preacher to a sinner" - just because there is a pause after the word "gay" does not imply a new stanza, the pause is simply for rhythmic effect.

So, as was also said on page 1, the correct line is "Turn a gay preacher to a sinner", which simply means she is so hot she can turn a commited gay man straight. Which entirely fits the context of the song. Anything else is just wrong!

Also, just to clear up the evangelical thing going on in this thread - he uses preacher to make the line funny and set up the often used phrase "preacher to a sinner". He's not implying its a gay priest, just someone who is gay and commited. A preacher, without the religious connotation, is just somebody who proclaims something or espouses a certain point of view. So, a gay person who is completely commited to their sexuality and doesn't hide it could be viewed as a gay preacher. Again, gay "preacher" is just a device to introduce the sinner aspect.

Yeah, people assumed the same thing with Little Richard, but it wasn't confirmed until he was ready for the world to know that he was in fact bisexual! And yes,
