Extraloveable on US iTunes Extraloveable has been released on iTunes US, in 256 kbps quality for $1.29, if you're interested and have given up on digging through that mess of a thread about the original iTunes Canada release for information. And since the mods haven't deemed the release of a new Prince song worthy of including as news on the front page of this site.

Interesting - is he just going to release remixes of these vault tracks, knowing we'll just slurp them up?
Though, I'd prefer a cleaned-up version of the original - this isn't too bad. Nice to hear a real funk sound. Worth a buck, certainly.

Weird, isn't it? | |

It is a bit, the front page has always been a mystery. We get the announcement of the "dance remixes" thing, and a couple of interviews with Canadian papers, but not a word on the most newsworthy item in weeks.

Has anyone actually asked a mod to add this to the front page news? 'Cause that's how it's did if ya want it done. Just click "report thread to Moderator" and tell them you think it's newsworthy.
As to the topic at hand, has this song been released in Apple Lossless yet? I'm not a fan of the George Lucas redux of Extraloveable, but I'm less of a fan of lossy compression. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I wondered that too, but thought it was unlikely, so downloaded any way.

I'm sorry to report that all the considerable funky fun of the original has been replaced by a by-the-numbers routine. Sir Noise, Devoid of Funk. Yuck!!! No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I wonder why it costs $1.29 in U.S. dollars on the U.S. iTunes, but only 99 cents Canadian on the Canadian site. Has something drastically changed in the exchange rate? This was a nice little surprise last night. I thought it was only going to be available via Canadian itunes...thinking Prince will makes us work for this one. But ah, nice to see it on US iTunes.
And, yes dears, its a funky jam.

True. He hasn't yet gone that route via iTunes, so I guess there's no sense in pondering. I would rather have most of his NPGMC releases in lossless anyway, but that aint gonna happen either. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Hmm.
It's 1.29 euro here in Holland too. Strange that it's only 99 cents..

Even if it is shit....make him NO.1!!! Keenmeister

I guess maybe the Canadians get a discount to encourage them to go to the shows? But if that's the point of this release, he should put it up on YouTube. (Not that he would do that.) Once again, he's not promoting his work. If he doesn't think it's good enough to promote then why put it out there? Why on earth not advertise that you are releasing new music? I mean if Prince.org doesn't even mention it then how are any casual fans or the general public going to know about it?

I think $1.29 is what Apple charges for non-DRM tracks. Perhaps they don't make that distinction in Canada? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

0,99 euro cents in Germany @ Amazon!
iTunes makes everything so complicated (especially if you don't have US funds!)
Still don't know what all the nastiness is about.
It's still a great jam!

I agree | |

All of iTunes tracks are non-DRM nowadays. They took that off a few years ago, when they bumped up the bit rate to 256 kbps m4a's. I've seen non-album tracks for the $1.29 price (as well as individually purchased album tracks). That's not uncommon.

So, if you sought it out vicariously because of the delay in release in other regions are you going to pay for it now? I want to, but, I kinda want something physical like a CD or a 7" or my money...f--k I'm old! Comin str8 outta Preston...

It's free on the internet. That's still too much. It'll cost you five minutes of your life.
If you do choose to pay for this and don't like it, well you just encouraged him and gave Prince the nod to bring out more utterly rubbish pale imititations of their original versions. My goodness. By the time it got to the "ooh ooh" chant the original had performed with such gusto, what was this new one doing? Prince sounding atrocious like he couldn't be arsed. Exactly how it started off. Weak and limp with some horrible rap.
I hate lyric changes too. I so miss "Call me up and SCREEAM!" and the "Baby, you could turn my momma on..." verse. I don't miss the rape references not being there but as a work of art, shouldn't the original be preserved? Perhaps some of the lyric changes are down to him deleting the 1982 version.
It'd be just awful if he was deleting the old songs as he went along recording these abominations of the originals. Imagine that!
whilst it's in my head i thought when he was going "OOOooo" towards the end he was sounding like MJ, unfortunately more Marlon than Michael
But seriously, just don't. It's a song of regret for how it was. The original was so great. I wonder if Dez did like his band? So much to miss.
Prince, shake youself awake!
Give your dollar or quid towards an extra present for someone at Christmas. And then warn them not to buy this rubbish too.
I suppose if this was the only version you'd ever heard you might like it but... so, so meh.
