Regarding THE VAULT: Would you rather...

Would you rather...

1- Have all of Prince's Vault material be in its originally conceived form, remastered but NEVER officially released (possibly destroyed and/or deleted throughout time) ...?

OR

2- Have all of Prince's Vault material be officially released BUT altered to his current musical standards, edited, and essentially removed from its originally conceived form...?

I find myself struggling to choose between the two. I shudder at the thought that much of what the man has created could possibly go unheard of, and may disappear before anyone else knew it even existed. In that regard the second option has more appeal. But then there is a part of me that would rather have his genius be lost and forgotten like some burned Leonardo da Vinci journal, rather than to be released but so stripped of its original integrity, inspiration, and magic. In that regard the first option has more appeal.

I'm choosing option one. I'd rather have his magic be lost than found but altered. There's always bootleggers right?

Since we've got people who can remaster his work and have done so "without authorization" I'd go with #2. Have it all and spend the time going through it.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I think I'd rather have just 5-10 previously unheard outtakes surface in shitty sound quality than option two.

Prince re-recording Vault classics under the thumb of Jehovah is the equivalent of of porn remakes of famous movies. Without the nudity.

1.

But how about this for an idea?

He always said that his only competition was himself in the past, so why not release a double album, original versions on one disc, new versions on the other.

That way, everyone is happy and it might just make him up his game, knowing that his new stuff will be 'battling it out' with his old stuff so to speak.

I know, never gonna happen, but still...

blah blah blah

Yeah, have to agree with option 1. I have my copies of those wonderful unreleased trax, and don't care if they are ever officially released. new clear "cleaned up" versions with stupid raps tacked on would be depressing to hear.

Wait....aren't 1 and 2 the same? If in option one its maintained in its original form but destroyed and then in option 2 its remastered and redone to his current standards well...its still destroyed. Whatever provactive lyrics were initially written will become forever altered and thus lost. If there were certain people he worked with but fell out of favor with then their contributions are also altered if not lost.

neutral

I don't like either choice. I need everything in that vault released to the public in its original format, no exceptions.

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Unfortunately they're pretty much the same in that they're both double-edged swords. neutral Each one has something that is really appealing but then some other aspect that overrides that appeal with repulsion.

I really wish the bolded part of your response could be a reality. But I can't trick myself into thinking something so magnificent could ever happen.

At this point with Prince I'm looking to be surprised instead of let down. neutral
