....or when i'm with a group of friends, and from afar, i see a nice looking lady, I can't help saying...'girls gotta an ass like a fine cut diamond'. Ok, I know these are basically quotes, but its the closest to any kind of princebonics that I'm using.

It is interesting that "y'all" is getting so much attention around here but, what I want to point out is that for certain communities, whether geographical or cultural - as Prince.org is - it is a space where those interested in Prince share certain values, such as interest/appreciation in his music - referring to norms and values. the use of "y'all" here is not so much because of where we live, but because of Prince but then again, this cyberspace focused on Prince creates a sense of community, as stated "Prince fan community site" [Edited 12/9/11 9:38am] [Edited 12/9/11 9:39am] No justice, No peace

You are wrong. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

am I totallly wrong? for example, there are people who do not live in geographical regions where "y'all" is used. and they use it because of listening to Prince

I am responding to your assertion that people here use "y'all" because of Prince. You are wrong. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

then what is it? perhaps i should re-phrase the question...do people who live in geographical regions where "y'all" is not used, and who have heard Prince use it - have no influence whatsoever from Prince?

"Y'all" is not Prince rhetoric. If you're not from the Southern U.S. or the Midwestern U.S. like Prince is, then you wouldn't understand. And since Prince is midwestern, it's not exclusive to just him.
