Is Extralovable a sign of the future or a 1 off single release ? After noticing that Extralovable is being released on i-tunes everywhere I wonder if this song is a sign for a posible "new" album of "old" friends 4 sale or is this just a one off single like F.U.N.K. and SST. Personally I would like 2 see a new album with a few old vault tracks thrown in. How about a new version of Empty Room. I still can't believe this song has never offically been released on a Prince record.

I wonder if Extraloveable was recorded in that Switzerland studio session? I definitely wouldn't mind an album with the party atmosphere of that single, something like the atmosphere he creates in his live shows [Edited 12/2/11 7:44am] "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

yes
In 2012 there will be a reworking of a Prince bootleg classic one per month.
January's song will be Rebirth Of The Flesh. "Climb in my fur."

Actually, that would be a great idea... All that bathing in purple rain just can't be good for your health...

It would be a good idea, therefore he will not do it.

Who knows???? No one but (and even he could change his mind as he did so many times!).
Back in 2009 I thought that an album with rerecorded vault songs such as "In A Large Room..." would be cool and even cooler if it was a "now and then" concept album with both the classic and the new versions side 2 side on 2 CD's and pple laughed in my face but, well... "my only competition is me in the past", so it'd make sense (and so far I'd favor both rerecorded versions). Now there's just no way to know what has in stores 4 us [Edited 12/2/11 11:00am] A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

They ony laughed because it was a farfetched idea for Prince to do. "Climb in my fur."

Well, not really: if you take away the provocative lyrics in Extraloveable, the new version is obviously much more sophisticated than the original (which was musically far below the amazing and groundbreaking stuff that ended up on 1999), and as for "In A Large Room...", the new version is far more sophisticated as well, the value of the original mostly being that it was a very innovative track at the time (but this time by Prince's standard, not by 1986's standards), so in the end, and even though most fans would flame him for it, Prince would certainly prove that his current stuff is as good as his classic stuff, which is a point he's been trying to make for a long time even though most listeners would disagree. Besides, Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Gary Numan, Simply Red and many others have rerecorded "classic" material (that was officially available for comparison) and no one considered it "farfetched", so what the hell? ^^^^^^^shaking my damn head..just..wow
Im not sure how to explain myself.
It isn't about sophisitcation. Because, if as you state, the original versions of those two songs you mentioned are primary, thats the beauty of it. Raw and inspired.
Not redone..not post-overproduced..changed etc.
Not saying that his reworked classics (especially Little Red Corvette Slow Down version which si beautiful imo) are not well crafted but its not about that.
And this is from someone who saw a unicorn.

I c ur point, raw is cool sometimes, well-crafted is cool some other times, and both at the same time is even better (Parade anyone?). Sometimes rerecording will make cool stuff (see above), sometimes it won't (1999: The New Master is a nice example of a song that shoulda been left alone), but it all comes to personal appreciation anyway in the end All in all if such a project was to be (and i ain't sayin it will), we'd have remastered bootleg classics + new versions and i'd rather have 2 well-sounding versions of a song than a poor-sounding single version
As for Extraloveable I think the new version is both sexy and romantic, and funky too, and managed to keep the spirit of the original with a logical update (how would Prince sound talking about rape or a dead father and lesbian mother being 54 years-old? I mean c'mon, we ain't talking 'bout Iggy Pop!), so I'm fine with him redoing it just 4 fun. But once again I perfectly understand ur point, being a huge fan of synth pop, new wave, mpls sound, electroclash and other raw stuff.
By the way, if u like raw try and listen to that swedish band The Knife, you'll probably like it, it's as great and insane as can be A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

A famous architect once said "If you begin copying yourself, you're dead". I guess you could say if he had tried to doa faithful replicatio of the original it would be copying instead of playing on themes. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Considering that in truth we should have never heard the 'original' version of "Extraloveable" what he did is nothing different than when he redid "Tick Tick Bang" or "Empty Room". The song was never officially released therefore maybe he doesn't feel he's doing a disservice to the 'original' because he's not even sure how many of us have heard that bootleg. Also while we as fans have bootlegs that we consider sacred and untouchable, Prince may have shelved those songs because he considered them unfinished works or unacceptable to his ears. We'll never know exactly where he stands on the issue of his bootleg legacy and how it should be handled because nobody is going to come out and ask him directly. Don't mind if theres a few remakes of old tunes as long its done well and he's not ruin the orignals, and even then I wouldnt want a whole album worth. Defo want a new album. I just want the funk without the cheese.

How do we know he hasn't been using old tracks for decades? Several songs are known to have been written years before they surfaced. It's concievable to think that he's used some of that material that we may have never heard before since the 90's. This is just an example of that now. I think Andy Allo has changed his stance on the past and he's digging around the vault and remembering why he did some of these shelved songs. I know this. Theres quite a few songs that were made years before they were tracks on new album, theres quite a lot but I can't remember them, my bf can name them from the top of his head, I'm not that nerdy
Extraloveable ok minus the rap but I wouldn't want an whole album of it, that would be lame. I expect better from a talented man like Prince.

It's totally a sign of the future. At the end of the song, there was a little overlap from another song which makes me think he did it on purpose to show that there's more to come. He's probably gonna do an album with no gaps between the songs. Hopefully it's not just one track like LoveSexy though.
