"We grew up in the 60s and 70s, which was a golden age for real music," he says. "These days the stylist is more important than whether or not you can really play your instrument."
Am I the only one who senses slight irony in this statement?
Prince: for real!!! | |

Yeah, okay. So now "NPG" is now the name for the audiences and not the band???? Now THAT'S a dumb statement. And for all those wanting him in the studio for HIS next album, thank God it wasn't. It was for his little girlfriend, who he was trying to impress by having her record with him in a studio in Switzerland! I guess there's another album that will be dominated by cheesy ass production.
It was interesting to hear him say he's covering the music of people who can no longer do it themselves (mostly due to being dead, I'm sure), and that it was almost blasphemy back in the day to cover your peers. Prince, you wanna introduce your audience to their music? Write a damn commercial for it,l or just send 'em to Amazon!! We don't wanna hear that shit in a show where we came to hear PRINCE songs!!

You must lead a miserable life to find so much time to complain. Luckily for you, there is good medication out there these days, I suggest you get down the docs. Nice interview, we all know he isn't going to give us much, but his thoughts on acts today placing more emphasis on style than their musicianship is spot on IMO.

I would tend to agree with that, but as I get older (and my bladder gets weaker) I have come to appreciate the occasional piss break.
Particularly if I drink a couple of pints of beer beforehand as I rather stupidly did at the Malahide concert. I have never been more delighted to hear the opening bars of 'Make you feel my love'.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Slowly the interviews start to become a little bit more revealing.Of course they are not supposed to be in-depth interviews, just promotion for the tour. But still... We know now that he realizes we own bootlegs and will play some obscure songs to please us diehards. (And some org-ers still complain about him playing only hits!) We know now that we should not hold our breath waiting for a new Prince album. The sessions in Switzerland were just playing with &y. And ever since he first used the term on Lovesexy, he has had this concept of the New Power Generation as a community of sexy spiritual souls who can appreciate an orgy just as much as a bible study. He means us.(maybe that is why he says "we" all the time.) He knows it is a fantasy, but when did Prince ever let reality get in the way of his dreams?

No, I lead a great life because I know not to blindly follow someone and I call them out when they're talking dumb shit!! There IS a difference (between that and being "miserable"). Learn it, love it, learn it again, and love it some more.

The actual interview:

I might join a fansite of Justin Beiber and spend half my life telling the rest of his fans what a dumb, fake, manufactured piece of s**t he is. Maybe then my life will be great.

Extremely poor analogy, since no one here does that. And if you think they do, please provide the link to that comment.
And even if "they" did, why would YOU even give a shit??

Please discuss the thread subject ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Interesting to read about how he views the band name now. And this part is fascinating: "While there are other artists who’ve been at it for 35-plus years like Prince, few still convey as much passion as he does when he sings and plays guitar."

And even if "they" did, why would YOU even give a shit?? You're not that dumb. I'm very disappointed that a new album isn't looking likely in the near future, I won't be going out of my way to get andy allo's new project.

So, am I the only one who is starting to be slightly creeped out by the whole "we" thing? Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

So basically, you're not going to address my request for the link (or even just a direct quote) of someone who said he was a dumb, fake, manufactured piece of shit, huh? So as my man Bart would say, stop making shit up.

They are my views, not anybody elses, but instead of going onto his fans forum and delivering my negative bulls**t on an hourly basis, I'd rather keep it to myself and let them get on with their discussions. You knew what I meant though didn't you.
I wish I were in Canada to attend one of those aftershows. If only I had been more clued up to such things when I saw him in London.

Cool read. Thank you for posting. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

It's a pluralis maiestatis, a form used by royalty in the old days, to imply they are on the same level as God.(God and I = We)
It's not creepy, it's just lunatic.

A good inspiring interview...
Love this quote:
"Music revitalizes the mind, body and spirit instantly. We all need music in our lives. Teachers and musicians are some of our favourite people"

Yes, the 'Royal We' is a bit much, in this day and age.

A little too ironic. Good interview.

nope unless prince has started 2 talk like the Rock in 3rd person speak man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
