I asked the Howard Hewitt fan page on Facebook how did he get the song "Allegiance" from Prince. I have always wondered how he ended up with the song and posted the question on his fan page. Surprisingly, his fan page actually contacted Howard for a response. Here is what was posted:

Hey Fans!

As most of you diehard Howard fans know...the song "Allegiance" from the album of the same name...Prince penned that track.

The question that has been often asked is...How did this come about, Howard and Prince, the song?

The story behind that is....basically Howard was working on this, his last album for Elektra Records, and Nia (his wife at the time) was also working on her own album. Someone in Prince's camp got word to Prince of their projects. Prince then sent about 4 songs for them to consider recording. Nia wasn't interested in any of them for herself...but Howard found "Allegiance" very interesting to him...and the rest is recorded history

A few years ago, Howard received a CD of unreleased Prince material...and "Allegiance" was on it with Prince's 'signature' sound of course. There was no personal feedback from Prince on the final recording, but Howard, as we all know...has a way to make any song his that stands out with his own style and flavor as only Howard can!

I was wondering about that also. Especially about the trax he had in mind for Nia Peoples. I wonder if she regrets turning down the Prince material?
